Guest nickcornaglia Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 I've been receiving alot of spam lately. Due to that virus about a week or so ago. That's fine. But now I'm receiving Returned/Undeliverable mails that I never sent with sublect lines like THANK YOU! and THAT MOVIE... Could my PC be compromised in some way? I am running Norton AV and Norton Firewall. Can someone shed some light on this as I know nothing about these matters. What can I do...if anything?
Guest morpheus2702 Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 Posted from my SmartPhone! It does sound like the SoBig virus - these are the sort of mail subjects that I was getting ten to a dozen last week. If you click on the SoBig thread I think there is a link to the removal tool - small download, will scan your PC in about ten minutes and let you know if it has the virus.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 Sobig or Bugbear or any number of other virus' still doing the rounds. I've been getting millions of the same through my spam-dump yahoo account this past week. Luckily either my virus scanner or yahoo is filerting off all the dodgy attachments. Still bloody annoying though. Don't worry about your PC either, other than msblaster (the bitch) most viruses are spread by idiots that actually run attachments they weren't expecting....
Guest sipper Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 The second "Ask Jack" answer (headed AV Spam) in today's (11 Sept) UK Guardian Online supplement might be of interest: http://www.guardian.co.uk/online/askjack/ sipper
Guest zeta101 Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 they might not be true undeliverable emails though, they might just be faked so it looks like that, inwhich case its just like normal spam and your pc wont have been compromised...
Guest nickcornaglia Posted September 12, 2003 Report Posted September 12, 2003 They were MailerDeamon returned mails....so I think they were real.
Guest Will Posted September 12, 2003 Report Posted September 12, 2003 the sobig and other virii, send hoax messages with fakes headers, so the return address is also fakesd, some virii use a different random email address for the sender and the return address. Hence an account i have never used to send stuff, gets undeliverable reports back!! (it can't work as the smtp server address is invalid). Will
