Can't Hard Reset?

Perhaps I'm doing something wrong.....

Turn off phone (or remove battery for 30 seconds)

Start up phone, holding the voice recorder button at the same time. I get a "Card Found" white screen, followed by a screen saying "press any key to enter bootloader". Pressing a key at this point gives me the "Canary" screen with v0.98 accross it.....

Now at this point, I SHOULD be able to press and hold the "Action" button (that is the centre joystick, right?!) and bring up a menu...

But on the last 3 phones I've tried (albeit the last 2 were knackered) I've not been able to get to the menu that will enable a hard reset....

I know I've hard reset one of my phones before, so what is happening here? Either I've got another "broken" phone, or I'm not following the right procedure, or maybe Orange are sending out phones which can no longer be Hard Reset.....?

Help!!

When it says "Press any Key" you have to press and hold the action button.

If you are not quick enough you will see the Canary screen.

or try the left soft key instead of the action key. i always get the two mixed up, but im pretty sure i used the softkey before....

Ian I've never heard of the soft key working :?

can you give more information to what bootloader you have so I can test this for myself.

Back on topic

The problem seems to be that JampoTT was pressing the a key (not the action key)

then trying to press the action key after entering the Canary screen.

Plus there is no option to 'hard reset', you need to erase IPSM.

I have same problem with hard reset, it wont show the menu. Yeah if there is no other options for hard reset, there is no way for me to fix my phone, is that so?? I cannot delete the IPSM either because my phone wont boot. Any help???

Welcome to the site rmsilva, could you give us a bit more information please?

You say it wont show the menu, what does it show?

Also, you say your can't delete the IPSM because the phone wont boot :? do you mean it doesn't boot at all?

Hi guys,

I have a similar problem trying to hard reset my just-received SPV.

The phone is sim-unlocked and 1.5 updated.

The problem is: when I press and hold down the action key i got a completely white screen without any "Erase IPSM" option.

since I'm just trying to remove all the contacts and data of the previous owner can i achieve the same result simply removing the IPSM folder via ActiveSync.

Thanks in advance for the help,

xButch

Yep need more info!

Your phone just needs to turn on. It doesn't need to start up windows.

You need to hold the action key for a few seconds then let go.

Let us know if any change. :)

Ok, done.

I've tried with 2 seconds, 5 seconds, 10 minutes and nothing changed.

The very important thing is to empty the SD slot.

I had the fake SD card inserted and the HR procedure didn't work.

removed the card everything worked fine.

Thanks,

xButch

The fake SD card will give you the white screen :)

As for having the slot empty I have to dissagree with you there,

It makes life easier if you have a card in (and not the plastic packaging protector ;))

as it slows the process of entering the bootloader down so you have more time to

press the action key.
