Guest Renwaldo Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 Hi, Does anyone have this problem, or heard of it?: When I have my cradle plugged in, but not charging my phone, I find that the charger itself (the plug) makes a loudish buzzing noise - loud enough to keep you awake! However, when the phone is actually charging, it doesn't make the noise. Also, the plug gets very very hot - hotter than I have ever experienced with other chargers in the past. Do I need to get a new charger? Oh, and i've lost that little plug through thing, so I can't charge the phone without the cradle, so I can't test it in any other way. Thanks for any help
Guest squall Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 its caused by the transformer running with no load on the second coil, when the phone is charging there is a current flowing in the second coil, and the energy in the first coil has somewhere to go, i had the same problem with the spv, but i havent noticed it on the e100... not really any soultion i know of, i remember wakening up at 1am and pulling out the charging plug many times when i had the spv...
Guest Renwaldo Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 Don't you think it's a really terrible flaw though? If I unplug the charger, then the phone is running flat all night, and if i leave it plugged in then the noise p isses me off. (oh, and i only have one room to live in, so i can't plug it in any where else!)
Guest squall Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 yeah. but the noise is kinda drowned out in my room but the thousands of transformers for other stuff:( and my hearings so sensitive i can hear the humm of a tv in a different room when the sounds off, but i got used to sleeping with the noise...
Guest Charlie Mouse Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 MY SPV charger does that as well, its bloody annoying!!! I actually got my charger replaced by Orange to see if it would cure the problem and the new one did the same thing. The only solution I have come up with was to move to another house with a spare room to put the charger in :)
Guest davidhorn Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 I have the solution - it pissed me off as well. Wait until you're just about to go to bed, then stick the phone on the charger. That should buy you an hour or two to get to sleep and hopefully you won't notice. Mind you, a few times I've been scrabbling around under my desk to get at the charger to unplug it. You could, I guess, get one of those timers that only allows the plug to be switched on during the day and a few hours at night. Actually, that's quite a good idea. Someone try it and see if it works. :)
Guest MECX Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 not as bad as my linksys router man that thing screems. I just think the charger supplied is shitty---i read somewhere that some nokia chargers work--or you could go buy an eqivilent one from an electronics store 8)
Guest barrybryce Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 I had this with chargers for different phones. Is it something you get with the chargers that are so light you wouldn't think there was anything in them? All the brick-weight chargers were silent, but the ones you wouldn't believe had anything inside them all buzzed. And yes, I live in the one room too. So between the charger noise and the LED light...
Guest squall Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 i have the problem with other stuff to, my electric shavor for example, thankfully i can just turn that off...
Guest davidhorn Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 I've changed my plan. Now I use a sync-n-charge USB lead. So, the phone charges whenever the laptop is on and I never have to use the charger. I still have to put a sock over the phone at night though, or the LED keeps me awake.
Guest squall Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 the thing that annoys me the most is that when the phone is fully charged the backlight comes on. Then as the battery drains down, and the charger kicks in and chrages it up the backlight comes on again when the batterys is full.
