Battery life whilst using mp3 player?

I am considering scrapping my spv as an mp3 player and buying a stand alone mp3 player... The reason being is I havnt actually as yet used the spv mp3 player, but am a little concerned in general at the phones normal usage battery span... and that using the mp3 player on it, is just going to drain the hell out of it whilst I am out and about and consequently not having the use of the phone if this happens. Can anyone point me in the right direction to life span of the battery whilst using the mp3 player??? cheers :)
