Guest rintys5 Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 I know this is boring for most, but I do actually like using MIDI ringtones. Anyway, the distortion you get on most downloaded ringtones is easily sorted. You simply bring down the MIDI note velocity info down to about half the normal - so you'd get notes ranging from 90-120 which will distort on the SPV, bringing those down into to 40-60 range stops this happening. I tried it using MIDIFixer, which makes it a breeze, and converted the file format to MIDI0 using MIDI File Format Converter. I tried using the ringtones from http://www.nokia.co.kr/nokia_apac/korea/ca..._sterlingsilver and they sound fine. BTW, we really should stop saying the SPV isn't polyphonic. It is because it can play more than one note at once. The trouble is, it's not a clear definition. Ask a musician (well, keyboard player anyway) and polyphonic is the ability to play more than one note at once. Multi-timbral is the ability to play more than one voice (or channel) at once. The dictionary definition for polyphonic is something like 'music having two or more independent but harmonically related melodic parts sounding together' which, IMO, is where it's got confused. Anyway, I'm glad I sorted it anyway :)
Guest Disco Stu Posted September 12, 2003 Report Posted September 12, 2003 I've been using them as I prefer the sharper sound. I got mine from coolsmartphone.com and they sound great - there are some excellent Prodigy riffs. What is "MIDIfixer" and/or where can I get it ? Is the process easy for the non-techie ? Why not post your conversions up here for the rest of us to try ? :)
Guest rintys5 Posted September 12, 2003 Report Posted September 12, 2003 MIDIFixer It's not techie at all. Just pull the volume down so the peaks are on, or just below the red line on the chart. Then save. Stick it through a format convertor and you're done.nokia.zip
