Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted September 12, 2003 Report Posted September 12, 2003 Can anyone help, I was browsing from my phone via the cradle. Came across a post saying that if you surf via a cradle you will have problems when you take it out, followed the instructions. Now I can surf when my phone is out of the cradle but I cant surf when I put it back. Can anyone tell me what the 'default' Data Connections settings should be...
Guest Lordsmiff Posted September 12, 2003 Report Posted September 12, 2003 Not exactly sure but to browse through the cradle, you need "pass through" selected :) HTH, T.
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted September 12, 2003 Report Posted September 12, 2003 Maybe a bit more explaination is required. I am new to the Smartphone and after buying a second cradle to sync with my work computer I was surprised to find that I could surf through the company server :) However in my haste I found an article which basically said that if you surf using pass through you will have problems afterwards so I followed the post but I did not make a note of my original settings ;) Excerpt from the post Here's a solution... 1. Go into Settings/Data Connections 2. Change the Internet Connection spinner to Automatic 3. Menu/Edit Connections 4. Dial Up Connections 5. Edit "Orange CSD WAP" abnd change it so that it connects to "WAP Network". 6. Press Done twice 7. Open GPRS Connections 8. Edit "Orange WAP" and change it so it connects to "WAP Network" 9. Press Done to save the changes 10. Press Home key to leave the control panel. If your 'Cradle surfing' works an you tell me what your settings for the above are please. Many thanks
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 12, 2003 Report Posted September 12, 2003 So are you having problems and what are they? I use the cradle and for Inernet connection I select Passthrough. I would also say you may get problems rather than you will have problems as I have never had any, but now I only use passthrough as I've had GPRS disabled.
Guest martin Posted September 14, 2003 Report Posted September 14, 2003 Dr_StrangeTrick You can just set the Orange CSD and Orange WAP back to 'Connects to The Internet' for the original settings. The problem with making the above connect to WAP network is that you bypass the proxy and lose WSP WAP which is needed for the WAP promotion. I had tried two methods of settings up the pass through connection. I don't which is easier Setup1 Dock SPV in cradle Goto PC Activesynch-Options-Rules and make 'Pass through Connection:Work' Orange CSD connects to the Internet. Orange WAP connects to the Internet. Orange GPRS connects to The Internet. Proxy connects from The Internet to WAP network. Internet Connection=The Internet Work Connection='Pass through connection'. WAP connection=Orange WAP or Orange CSD. Goto pocket IE and make 'Select network: My Corporate Network'. To use: When docked untick 'Auto detect settings' (to force use of the Work connection/pass through) and when not docked re-tick 'Auto detect settings (to use Internet/WAP connections as normal). This method keeps all your original GPRS/CSD data settings and just adds a pass through to the work connection which you select manually. Setup2 Dock SPV in Cradle. Goto PC Activeynch-Options-Rules and make 'Pass through Connection: The Internet'. Orange CSD connects to My Corporate Network. Orange WAP connects to My Corporate Network. Orange GPRS connects to The Internet. Proxy connects from My Corporate network to WAP Network. Internet connection: Automatic (make sure that only Orange GPRS/Pass through and Automatic are selectable). Work Connection: (doesn't matter). WAP connection: Orange WAP or Orange CSD. Goto pocket IE and tick 'Auto detect settings'. To use: The SPV should automatically use the pass through when docked and Orange GPRS when not docked. The WAP connection is still in use because it uses the proxy via the work connection. The only problem is that there is no proxy between the Internet connection and WAP network so you can't access WAP sites via HTTP (pass through/GPRS). You could try adding it as a 2nd proxy connection. I don't use the pass through myself (no need) so this was just me messing around with the settings one rainy day. Hope it helps
