Guest Matt Whitfield Posted September 12, 2003 Report Posted September 12, 2003 You know you want it ;-) Check some more pics and specs (5L, V10, Twin Turbo, etc) here - http://www.fast-autos.net/audi/audilemans.html.
Guest morpheus2702 Posted September 12, 2003 Report Posted September 12, 2003 Oh come on, another collection from the VAG parts bin wrapped up in a predictably boring design: Mechanicals from the baby Lambo, with twin turbos bolted on so that it goes faster... yawn  Body lifted straight from the Bugatti Veryon E16.4... yawn. The 1991 Spyder was such a fresher design. Park it next to a McLaren F1 and see how hamfisted it looks. To me, its just Audi still trying to figure out how they are going to get that stupid new grille design to work. Still, funky headlights!
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted September 12, 2003 Report Posted September 12, 2003 That is very nice... Definitely nicer than the Bugatti! :) P
Guest Simon Desser Posted September 12, 2003 Report Posted September 12, 2003 Here's a bit more :) With Audi having just lost its Le Mans crown for the first time in four years, the R8 racer that scored a hat-trick of victories between 2000 and 2002 has been put out to stud. Very successfully, too, if the company's Le Mans quattro concept is anything to go by. Short, wide and very aggressive looking, the vehicle 'seems to be bracing its muscles in order to jump, like a sprinter on the starting line.' Now, where have we heard that analogy before? Its flowing lines, meanwhile, 'seem to have been drafted with a single stroke of the pen.' Not shy of a well turned clich?, are they? Less boring is the 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V10 engine mounted behind the driver and passenger. No, it's not the diesel unit from the VW Touareg - this burns the proper stuff, producing 601bhp at 6800rpm and 553lbf.ft at 1750-5800rpm in the process. With a sequential six-speed box and quattro four-wheel drive, distributed through a 40:60 front-rear split, it allows the vehicle to hit 62mph in 3.7 seconds - enough to embarrass a Murcielago and blow every current Ferrari out of sight. They'll all come streaming back past you shortly afterwards when the governor kicks in at 155mph, however; it's a dark day indeed when even a concept car has to have its top speed limited, but such a grounding in reality at least suggests that Audi has one eye on production. Anyway, they say, theoretical top speed is 215mph... meaning that with a bit of reprogramming by your local bloke wot does, the vehicle's fully fledged supercar status can finally be realised. Not that you'd want to be doing stuff like that anywhere other than on a track (well, you'd want to, but you'd probably not have the bottle). With this in mind, the instrument panel features a TFT screen which can be switched between modes by the driver. In analogue mode, the screen simply works as a digital speedometer and clock. Switch to track mode, and it all starts getting rather clever. The central section of the screen shows your selected suspension settings and reminds you which gear you're in, while outside it a GPS-driven plan of the circuit shows you the next bend and keeps you up to date with your lap time.newspic2693.jpg
