Over the air Synchrinisation

I am using a dial-up connection to access my corporate network which I can do successfully. I can browse the internet etc. My desktop machine is on the same subnet and I thought I would be able to Activesync my mail, calander, contacts etc . No Joy. I don't think the SPV e100 can resolve the PC name. i.e. MYPC rather than MYPC.domain

Do you need somehow to give the SPv an IP address, or any other work arround.

Any help appreciated

To do that, I'm fairly positive your company needs to be running a Mobile Information Server, but don't quote me on that ;-)

I know that it can be done with MIS and we are currently implementing Exchange 2003 which includes the MIS server so in the long term that is what would happen. However, I have successfully used PPC devices to sync over the air with my desktop PC and it works without any problems. The only thing that you have to do is use pocket Hosts on the PPC to define the workplace PC's IP adress. If you could do this on the Smartphone I believe it should work

I would imagine if you're dialling into your corp network then your SPV will already be assigned an IP address, it's just a matter of finding out what it is.

But, rather than the PC's name, could you not use your PCs IP address?

I've never tried this so I don't know, I'm just guessing :)

The name of the computer appears hard coded in the Activesync software

i.e. mycomp which is setup on establishing an activesync partnership. I do not know what protocols the samrtphone uses to resolve the computer name e.g. DNS Wins etc but in the past with the PPC used the internal hosts lookup and resolved it satisfactoraly

thanks for the help. It would be great to get this working as it would also allow over the air sync of smartphone notes.

As Lordsmiff has said you need to change the Computers name to the IP address (From a microsoft source) but how do you do that.

Solved it by setting up the name of the PC with its IP addresson a local Wins Server.

Thanks
