Guest daveydm196324 Posted September 14, 2003 Report Posted September 14, 2003 I have now owned my E100 for about 8 weeks and have to say how dissapointed i am with this device. I have loads of phones and feel the e100 is probaly the least used phone i have. Initially when i read the spec about this phone i thought it had virtually all you would wont in a phone and more, In fact it does, but you just get frustrated using it. My biggest gripes with the phone are. 1) very poor battery life cant even get a days use, and have had a new battery under warranty. 2) General use of the various programmes very slow, and can even lock up at times. 3 Joystick at times can be erratic when in use espcially when trying to read e mails,. also not much grip on the joystick top when operating with your thumb, needs a plastic top hat type joystick similar to ericsson t68i. 4) No bluetooth Sorry to say all in all I think this handset is very poor, and Microsoft need to make significant improvements before i will consider purchasing another. davey
Guest Gorskar Posted September 14, 2003 Report Posted September 14, 2003 We know these problems already, so why are you telling us? I personally dont think they add up to a rubbish handset, but if you do then go and buy a nokia instead - I don't think anyone particularly cares.
Guest benzo Posted September 14, 2003 Report Posted September 14, 2003 Gorskar, I think your reply to Davey was a little harsh. Had he written a positive review that had been mentioned before, as quite often is the case here, would you have berated him and said, "We know these positives, why are you telling us?”- I don't think so. This is a Smartphone message board. He was posting a Smartphone related opinion. Your message comes across like Dubya Bush's message- either with us, or against us. I am not attacking you. Just disagreeing with the tone of your message. Benzo.
Guest martin Posted September 14, 2003 Report Posted September 14, 2003 I agree with Gorskar, these issues have been discussed to death. The Canary/Tanager models are based on the first smartphone design by HTC and we are now on the verge of seeing newer smartphone models where we hope some of these issues are addressed. I don't particularly disagree with the comments above but I think these shortfalls are tolerable in view of how much enjoyment I've had from the SPV. It doesn't suprise me that some people are put off by how much care is required to keep the SPV working efficiently. I've seen the same comments said about the P800 where problems with OS, memory management and software have caused people to change to more stable devices which tend to focus only on the mobile network services. Smartphones are different breed which will improve with each generation. Faster processors, more memory, (maybe even one day hard drives and specialised graphics chips). You can do so much more with smartphones if you are willing to spend a bit of time learning about them. To say you use the E100 the least probably says it all. Gorskar tone: Hmmm, maybe he's just had a bad day and his fridge has run out of beer.
Guest Gorskar Posted September 14, 2003 Report Posted September 14, 2003 Sorry if I came accross a little harsh there. It just annoys me when someone makes 1 post and its just to critisise. A bit pointless signing up to a smartphone forum if thats the only thing you want to do on it. I also fell of my bike today and skinned my elbow and now i have a shirt with the elbow caked in blood. (and my fridge is down to the last 2 beers)
Guest mavisdavis Posted September 14, 2003 Report Posted September 14, 2003 I'll give him a fiver for his E100. It should get a half decent nokia
Guest morpheus2702 Posted September 14, 2003 Report Posted September 14, 2003 Posted from my SmartPhone! I think the best way to sum it up is that to get the best from the Smartphone, you have to work with it. Work with it and the smile you get on your face when it blows everything else away with what it can do is worth it. But out of the box? No, not the greatest phone - a Nokia IS a better bet, but never will have the POTENTIAL of the SPV!
Guest londonlad Posted September 14, 2003 Report Posted September 14, 2003 if you buy a nokia i might be abliged to kill you, get a sonyeric and ill let you live. sonyeric is the only other company with that quality style, only if they made an ms smartphone, motorola, psss, it looks like the backside of a ps2 !
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 14, 2003 Report Posted September 14, 2003 1) very poor battery life cant even get a days use, and have had a new battery under warranty. 2) General use of the various programmes very slow, and can even lock up at times. 3 Joystick at times can be erratic when in use espcially when trying to read e mails,. also not much grip on the joystick top when operating with your thumb, needs a plastic top hat type joystick similar to ericsson t68i. 4) No bluetooth 1, Still not great but you should be getting at least 2 days from an E-100 2, Never really noticed much of a slowdown except Media Player but that's a poor app anyway. 3, Joystick just takes getting used to, that's about all I can say about that. 4, Agree
Guest morpheus2702 Posted September 14, 2003 Report Posted September 14, 2003 OK granted that Nokias are phones for the bus stop posse. But Sony Ericsson have lost the plot design-wise: T68i - oh yeah, gorgeous little phone P800 - nice but looking a bit blocky T300 - boring bar of soap T610 - boring bar of aluminium/black soap
Guest goinnuts Posted September 14, 2003 Report Posted September 14, 2003 plain and simple designs. the t610 looks neat great for texting, 7210 noway, aluminum casing - feels more solid than 3310, 7250 plastic fake phone filled with sweets that taste like shite. spv kicks arse. oh did i say i have them both :) serious se have good stable software, jus alit slow similar to spv. both worth their weight in gold, an thats alot.
Guest MECX Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 SPV aint the best 'phone' by no means, but if thats all your gonna use it for youve wasted your money---best MP3 player/PDA/movie player/internet link/phone/games device money can buy in my opinion. :)
Guest strangechild Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 1, Still not great but you should be getting at least 2 days from an E-100 2 days battery life from an E100? I love my E100, but it's a weak and sickly child and always needs charging - it probably does about 20 hours between charges most times. Do you use an E100? What's the secret of it's long life? Please don't say the latest iMate ROM, I'll tear my hear out if you do! (You already know about my backup blues...)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 I'm afraid it is the newer updates, the 1.5 has been reported buggy regarding the battery life on some phones, but this may also tie in with some E-100's not being able to doungrade successfully :?
Guest fozzie Posted September 16, 2003 Report Posted September 16, 2003 My biggest gripes with the phone are. 4) No bluetooth But surely you knew that before buying the phone, right? So why buy it if it was such an important capability. It would be like buying a kettle and saying one of your biggest gripes is that it doesn't make toast! (if you do know of such a device though please let me know)
Guest blewer Posted September 16, 2003 Report Posted September 16, 2003 I'll buy your E100 if you are selling  PM me if you want to. Adam
