Guest ewg_uk Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 I bought this phone from one of my suppliers so I don't actually own it but know it won't get barred etc. Anyway, I use o2 so I wanted to unlock the phone today. I've followed one of the many guides on here and downloaded a downgrade files, an upgrade file and an unlocking program. I managed to downgrade the phone fine and then after that, I turned the phone on and it was working. I then attached it to the cradle again to go for the upgrade but USB wouldn't work so I thought i'd just reset the phone. I turned the phone off, then on and since then I just get the following: - Screen comes on as normal with orange logo and sea, sunset etc. - the keypads light come on a second or 2 after that Then nothing. The backlights eventually just go off and the phone doesn't react to any keypresses whatsoever. Please say I haven't cost myself nearly £400
Guest pcheaven Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 Boot up the phone in Canary mode Reinstall a QTEK ROM this should cure it
Guest ewg_uk Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 I'm new so any chance you could explain further and possibly supply what I need? I can't get my PC to recognise the phone at all now... comes up "USB Device not recognised":(
Guest Lordsmiff Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 To get to Canary mode (which is also know as the bootloader) hold down the voice record button as you power it up. You should see a screen with three colours on it and then you should be able to put it in the cradle and install a new ROM file. Some people like the QTEK one, some people like the iMate one (I'm an iMate person myself :) But, before you put a ROM on, go to www.monolithix.org and download the SIMUnlock program and get the sim lock code out first (you might as well while it's not working, just in case) because I found when I put the iMate ROM on, my phone was still SIM locked. HTH. T.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 There is a known problem with the newer E-100 phones, for some reason they are unable to be downgraded and get stuck on the sunset screen. Also when you plug the phone in to the PC does the screen change at the bottom from serial to USB? If it does you should be able to run a newer update (Qtek or I-Mate) from the Canary screen to fix the problem.
Guest NeilStewart Posted September 16, 2003 Report Posted September 16, 2003 @ ewg_uk I had all this stuff a couple of weeks ago... frightened the life out of me when the PC said it couldn't see the phone ('device appears to have malfunctioned') I posted on Modaco and awarner helped - he suggested rebooting the PC and leaving the battery off your phone for a minute or so... and guess what? It worked! A word of warning about the upgrades though - if you're on Orange and move to the i-Mate (like I did), you can't go back to the Orange version. It will install, but you won't be able to get a signal. You'll have to stick with the i-Mate version. Good luck!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 16, 2003 Report Posted September 16, 2003 You can only downgrade to the UK 1.5 update from an I-mate (have not fully tested the Qtek) problem is that this is not available on general release. This problem relates more ot the E-100 than the SPV
Guest md111 Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 Dare I ask how I can get hold of these ROMS??
Guest Will Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 you can install the swiss update (available from : www.smartphonefrance.info/ROM.asp) BUT you will have to spend some time setting up gprs, sms, mms etc). or where in the UK are you, i could reflash your phone! Will
Guest md111 Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 Got it thanks, a bit more thorough searching needed. Certainly a handy little technique to know that!
