Guest neilfenstein Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 I have been attempting to make a homescreen with multiple pages in a slightly simpler but similar vain to the longhorn homescreen. My problem is that I have a plugin loading a backgroung image and then the next plugin not loading a background image even though they are effectively the same. I dont understand why the plugin image is working but the next one isnt. An example:- valign="top"/> valign="top"/> PROFILE SCHEDULE Thanks any help would be gratefully received as would love not to go bald tearing my hair out.
Guest drblow Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 Dunno m8. The xml looks OK to me. Em... I'm not an authority mind ... but you could try checking you image heights vs your plugin heights - that has been the cause of a problem like that for me before.
Guest randy Posted September 16, 2003 Report Posted September 16, 2003 the only difference i can see is that there is no file="sysplug.dll" on the second plug-in. on our version of ROM (Smart), this doesn't matter. but i think it does on your version.
Guest neilfenstein Posted September 16, 2003 Report Posted September 16, 2003 I tried adding the syplug.dll bit and nothing changed! Oh well tearing my hair out as i type one handed! ;)
Guest drblow Posted September 16, 2003 Report Posted September 16, 2003 You could always try taking another xml that you know works, & just copy/paste the relevant plugin over your one that doesnt work. If that lets you get the images working, then you can just adjust the height, x,y etc. to your skin. Sometimes works for me in times of loss of hair!!
Guest neilfenstein Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 That is effectively what i have done. I have messed around with a few homescreen ideas but unforunately i cant get the thing to work and many of the skins do similar things in different ways ie. the italian job skin uses a picture for the whole page and then add pictures over the top. Where as the longhorn homescreen opens a new image each plugin. The Longhorn homescreen also has a plugin called filler that i dont know what it does. Im throwing myself in at the deep end trying a simple but obviously too complicated skin as a first off. Well its first multi screen one. But what i want to acheive i have not seen before and will hopefully look cool.

Guest drblow Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 Well its first multi screen one. What exactly do you mean m8?? My interpretation of a multi screen skin is that all the plugins would have images 200x176 - so the effect is on 'multiple' screens. Is that what you're doing? Why don't you post the skin as it is (xml & images) for some research!!??
Guest neilfenstein Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 Basically it is a Halo homescreen that has a nice simple first page with just the master cheif and title etc with signal battery info displayed over the gif ant the bottom. When you push down you get to a second screen that contains shcedule internet etc. I have attempted to make this screen very similar to the menu screen in halo on the xbox, when you scroll over each plugin the colour of the text changes like in the game. I say this but at the mo I cant make the second screen work too well. I first tried loading one image and then the plugins, however this didnt work even more so than now, so I have tried to split the gif for each plugin. Unfortunately only the first gif loads. I thought maybe the other gifs have loaded up behind the first and are positioned at the top but have not had a chace to check this as am busy with work. Cheers for your help guys. Even in its not so good state it looks cool with my legendary symbol in the background of the menus and extra screens. Ill try and post some screens tomorrow before i go away again!
Guest Mathias Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003 I had the same problem. For me it was the "msgcount" plugin that didn't change background image. When I changed the clsid from clsid="{FC0658FA-388E-45d3-9C23-957496F4775B} to clsid="{2F930BF0-6FE9-4a53-9E17-88E9247BAB48} it suddenly worked. Maybe you could use another clsid for the "calendar" plugin? (If it exists...)
Guest neilfenstein Posted September 26, 2003 Report Posted September 26, 2003 guys could some one post suggested clsid's for calendar and shortcuts so I can make sure that i have the right ones in my home screen! I have shown my home screen and extra screens to some friends as it stands and they have been quite impressed so well want to finish it so i can post it on the forum!!! Cheers!
Guest Richie M Posted September 26, 2003 Report Posted September 26, 2003 all the CLSID are listed in the MS whitepaper http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....2homescreen.asp in Appendix B ;)
Guest neilfenstein Posted September 26, 2003 Report Posted September 26, 2003 Cheers, any idea how and what I should be putting for a shortcut plugin i have tried but for a start i get the question marks which i have seen other people mention. Also when trying to arrange backgrounds should i be trying to arrange them with x and y coordinates or will they just fit if they are the right size?
