Guest ranzz Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 I thought it was smartphone 2002 that doesn't support J2ME (spv, spv e100 don't have J2ME), so how can the MiTAC Mio 8380 have J2ME if it's running smartphone 2002?
Guest spacemonkey Posted September 16, 2003 Report Posted September 16, 2003 It's not that Smartphone 2002 doesn't support J2ME, it's that Smartphone 2002 doesn't INCLUDE J2ME. So basically microsoft isn't giving it away free, but any handset manufacturer who wants to has several options for versions of J2ME for the smartphone platform that they can include on their phone. These J2ME implementations incidentally work on any Smartphone, the MIO J2ME has been running successfully on SPV and e100 phones for a while now (although it is quite slow).
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted September 16, 2003 Report Posted September 16, 2003 Isn't it MIDP on the Mio though, not J2ME. Or are these the same thing and i've totally lost the plot...
Guest spacemonkey Posted September 16, 2003 Report Posted September 16, 2003 I think they are interelated standards. Something like J2ME is the general specification for Java on small devices and MIDP is the specifics of packaging it.
