Guest rodnav Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 Check this out guys! Laos na 256MB... [or is this old news already... i've had one for a month. the newest 1 is suppose to be 2 gb SD card. microsoft said that the 1 gb is supported by our SAP. don't know about the 2 gb, but it should also be supported. but they will be very expensive. i got my 512 mb SD card 2nd hand at 7000 pesos. if you're interested i can give the website where he bought it.
Guest cazster Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 yes please! san ba pwede makabili ng 512MB SD?
Guest rodnav Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 you can it on the web, it was available once in megamall. they sold it for 17.500, i think. they've ran out. not sure when they'll have new stocks. http://www.doml.com.sg sells it online, the company is singapore and they deliver to the philippines, no warranty though.
Guest grifter Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 the SAP only supports 512MB of expansion memory.
Guest rodnav Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 the SAP only supports 512MB of expansion memory. this was asked in the main forums, and microsoft said the tanager will support the 1gb SD card. yung 512mb na limit, nasa flyers lang ng Smart yun, that was the largest SD card planned back when SAP was being introduced.
Guest grifter Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 talaga ha! what would you do with a 1GB SD on the SAP anyway? hehe...
Guest Chito Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 kapag 1 gb na yung memory card mo dapat muna siguro malakas na din ang processor ng sap mo.
Guest grifter Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 not really. hindi naman kelangan malakas processor to take advantage of the 1GB SD.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 Microsoft stated at the lauch of the SPV that it can handle 1GB cards. As for what would you put on it? well quite a few decent DIVX movies for starters ;)
Guest grifter Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 it's hard watching movies on a 176x220 screen. I get a headache. ;)

Guest dinoalbert Posted September 20, 2003 Report Posted September 20, 2003 2GB from Sandisksd-2gb.jpg
Guest spv_dman Posted September 20, 2003 Report Posted September 20, 2003 Gagana ba ang 2Gb sa smartphone? Some say 512mb lang ang limit while others 1Gb. Ano ba talaga koya?

A 512MB SD card is a 512MB SD card. The name denotes its quality (time-proven products) so they demand more on price. You could see a Panasonic 256MB SD cost higher than SunDisk 256MB SD card. It is better if we compare two flash memory types and find out which of the two have the features that suite our needs. Here are some links to help us: cnet comparison(size and speed) mmc vs sd card :D
Guest Xander Posted September 22, 2003 Report Posted September 22, 2003 The SD card was jointly developed by Toshiba, Panasonic (actually Matsushita, its parent company) and SanDisk, so I don't see why the Panasonic brand is higher in quality than SanDisk since they both use the same technology. And SanDisk is known worldwide for its memory products.
Guest binky_p Posted September 22, 2003 Report Posted September 22, 2003 i've thought of only 512MB that our smartphone could handle (anyway, it was only smart's ads) now microsoft stated that it could work a 1GB memory card?....whoa... ;) this is great and fascinating and we could load practically everything on our smartphone then (movies..)...but could our pockets handle the price of 17.500? how about the speed of accessing our mem.card then? :?:
Guest BrAGoL Posted September 22, 2003 Report Posted September 22, 2003 i think 512MB is just enough for a normal phone applications that you want to use... unless you want to store a lot of mpeg's and mp3's... ;) glad to know that our SAP can handle 1GB or 2GB as was told by others... unlike the N3650 which is limited to only 128MB...
Guest rodnav Posted September 22, 2003 Report Posted September 22, 2003 i've thought of only 512MB that our smartphone could handle (anyway, it was only smart's ads) now microsoft stated that it could work a 1GB memory card?....whoa... :D how about the speed of accessing our mem.card then? :?: the SAP can actually access my 512 mb SD faster than it did with my 256 mb memory card. it's even faster than when it accesses the IPSM folder. i've verified this when i use IA album, the thumbnails come out faster even if the files are more than 1 mb. the 512 mb SD card is suppose to have a 10 mbps access speed and the larger cards are rated at 20 mbps.
Guest fraser Posted September 22, 2003 Report Posted September 22, 2003 I believe that SD cards are designed to scale without affecting the device. The upper limits are caused by memory-addressed storage, which the phone must be able to address. With SD-cards, this is done on the card, so they are essentially limitless, whatever you can fit on a chip. And SanDisk is known worldwide for its memory products. This sort of thing goes on a lot, CDr's are the worst culprit, you never know who made a disk, despite the brand. However, there is some difference in quality. Often a manuafacturer will release two products under two different brands. Despite being mostly the same, one brand will be better tested and have more stringent quality control on the wafers used etc.

The more popular the product is, the more they can put up price at a certain level. Popularity imply quality (for some reason, most common people believed that the more popular the product is, the higher their price, and consequently have better quality). In my example, I want to emphasize on the brand name rather than quality( the name can carry it though they use the same tech): on a big screen, Panasonic is well known in the electronic industry whereas SanDisk is not until flash data storage came into the picture. A clearer example is: Kodak MMC 64MB, SRP=PhP 3,988.00 and TwinMOS MMC 64MB, SRP=PhP 1,488.00... hope you get what I mean. If comparison is to be made on flash memory better compare it by the type rather than by brand(coz were limited to name and price since all have the same technology).mmc vs sd card, cnet comparison(size and speed)
Guest battousai Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003 what works best with SAP? ung brand I mean... planning on getting a 64 MB MMC for MP3 playback on my SAP eh
Guest kapitan jackal Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003 @batt- any brand will do (i think) but i suggest you get the 128 mb (para sulit) im using transend. ok naman. PQI or Muse, ok rin. just make sure it comes with a warranty ;)
Guest fraser Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003 neo168 wrote: for some reason, most common people believed that the more popular the product is, the higher their price, and consequently have better quality There is truth in this though. The big brands have to protect that image, which they do by more stringent quality control. Also, there is far more to electronic manufacturing than the chipset. Sure, the EEPROM (or whatever SD uses) might be the same chip and the same protocols, but the interface chips and connections as well as packaging will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. The quality of these can vary between brands, for example my Sandisk card has actually fallen apart along the seam, and I've had to glue it together. Pretty shoddy really. Not always the case though...I've got some fake jeans that I got in Asia that are much better quality than the extremely exensive originals.
