Just curious about SP Windows Media Player ( skins too )

I cut my teeth on a Casio BE 300 and E-125, and I hope to try my hand a SP someday....when ever they come to Canada ;)

In any case first with the Q's

1) What is a smart phone screen rez? PPC is 320x 240 ( - 52 pixil for the task and tool bar making it 268 x 240 for available skin area ). In your Media Player is there a tool bar or start bar still on screen when the player is showing?

2) Is all video play scaled to the video area? Can you play video full screen and rotated 90 degree? ( The Casio BE 300 which had no access to Windows Media Player till the eXpod hack, had to change the video settings via the registery to full screen 90 degree rotation).

3) Can a skin be used that is designed for audio only? If I were to leave the video Display area out of the skin would it cause your media Player to crash or do anything weird?

In Pocket PC I can use skins made for WMP 1.1 ( audio only) in 7.1

4) How do you control the player? Is there default key map? Since you don't have touch screen. What are the available buttons or are there any button functions you don't have ability to map?

Ok I hope someone can dig up the answers to them, cause I would like to start to convert some skins. I took apart an SPV skin and the skinning is almost the same as Pocket PC. Your skins don't use Track Bars, which I assume is a space save issue.

Ok just a few skins I have made for PPC

Hello m8 - can't answer all your questions, but can tell you -

1.the screen res. is 176x200. Media player does show a tool bar while playing (also will display track info), but only supports play/stop & track skip. So far there has been little or no success with ff/preview.

2. Not too sure about playing fullscreen video in Media player. There is another player for SPV called PocketMVP - which allows full screen, portrait/landscape view etc.

3. Haven't got a clue there m8! I guess you could try it & find out!!

4. Not sure exactly about the default key layout - the SPV has 2 'softkeys' just below the screen, & the joystick contains the 'action' key - these are usually the main buttons for functions, although I know that pocketMVP and other applications have functions mapped to almost every button!

Good luck there m8 - your skins look good & would be glad to see some converted into SPV format!

Hi Greywolf_ghost, just a few points for you;

The WMP skins for the smartphone only support Pocket WMP v8.1 skins.

Therefore you cannot have an audio only skin :D

You cannot get exactly Full Screen video unfortunately (but close enough) and there is no rotate option.

As for keys, they are mapped by default and you cannot change the keys :?

You also mention about trackbar, it does support trackbars (i've used them in a few of my skins) but they are not clickable like the pocket pc ones, basically they are only used to display the track progress (also the same for the volume trackbar).

Obviously as we dont have a touch screen the skins do not support "Region Button types". And FYI shuffle and repeat are menu options not actual buttons.

Hope this helps and explains what you need to know ;)

That explains why the SP skin files are so light.

The region map is out. ( sorry I call it a map, I am a hack at best for these things so pardon my very loose terms).

Does any one know the size in pixil's for your tool bar?

A PPC tool bar is 26 pixil high.

Nevermind

Man some days my brain is just placed in park and it stays there.

If an SP screen rez is 176 x 200

and a WMP skin for SP is 176 x 180, then the rest is task bar

20 pixil

I should learn to take advantage of the education the public school system gave me oh so many years ago.

err.. is it just me being stupid, or is the screen rez 220x176 and not 200x176 ...

Theres also a top bar in mediaplayer besides the buttons in the bottom.

That means that the area of the mediaplayer is 180x176, because the two bars is 20 pixels

Don't think so m8 - the extra 20 pxls is taken up by the soft keys, so doesn' come into play for apps - em... I think!

Thats correct ... the total screen size is 220x176, and the WMP skin files must be 180x176 because of the two 20-pixel bars.
