Guest cheesypuff Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 Hi Just thought I would let you all know (if you dont already) that u can use a THREE(3g) SIM in an unlocked SPV, whilst u obviously cant use the 3G services the SPV will use the O2(BT Cellnet 2G) backup service that the THREE phones use when out of 3G coverage. While using an SPV on the O2 network may not be a biggie you do get a good deal at the moment as I now get 500 minutes to any network at any time for £25 a month, all I need to do now is set up the data comunications settings if anyone knows what they are for O2 please point me in the right direction. The THREE phones are a bit too big at the moment so using the SIM in my spv is excellent, the THREE SIM is a USIM(whatever that means) and apparently will work in newer Nokias too(although THREE say diferently). Just thought some of you may have wanted to know. Cheese........
Guest cheesypuff Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 sorry about the multiple post my pc has a mind of its own Cheese...
Guest Richie M Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 sorry about the multiple post my pc has a mind of its own Cheese... S'ok deleted them for you :D And thanks for the heads up on the SIMS ;)
Guest blewer Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 Richie's getting good at this. Haven't seen any posts he has locked yet but I'm sure the time will come.
Guest morpheus2702 Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 Stupid question probably, but I guess that all 3's data settings are purely for 3G services? Are all the GPRS and MMS services carried by O2's GPRS services? Does 3 have WAP services? Yeah, I know guys - it's a SMARTPHONE forum... :?
Guest wbloore Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 all I need to do now is set up the data comunications settings if anyone knows what they are for O2 please point me in the right direction. According to Three, you cannot use GPRS or any data communications while on O2's network with a Three Sim Card. You are limited to voice calls, text messages and LISTENING to emails. In reality you may be able to connect, but don't get your hopes up. I tried a Three Sim in my SPV several months ago, but didn't try GPRS. The settings for O2 are: Connection name: O2 Internet Connects to: Internet Access Point: wap.o2.co.uk Username: o2wap Password: password Primary DNS: 193.113.200.200 Secondary DNS: 193.113.200.201 IP address: Blank In the "data connections" screen use these settings to connect to "internet connection" Then in the MMS setup screen, use the above profile with the following: IP: 193.113.200.195 Port: 9201 Mmsc: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002 Now for the internet..... Connection Name: O2 GPRS Connect to: Internet Access Point: wap.o2.co.uk username: o2wap password: password primary/seconday DNS: 0.0.0.0 IP address: 193.113.200.195
Guest blackhorse Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 Yea i noticed i could use my 3 card as well, but there no point really as Orange matched 3's tariff for me. Get 750 cross network mins + 60 texts per month for £35 a month! ;) Orange call it Select 750. Only available if you harass the hell outa them and threaten to leave! Otherwise it doesnt exist and they will deny all knowledge!! lol
Guest mcwarre Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 Davo, I wonder how many people have this???
Guest blackhorse Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 Davo, I wonder how many people have this??? From what ive heard not many, you really have to bash Orange rettentions. Took me three attempts, you must of served at least 9 out of your 12 months on your current contract. + be a relatively high spender. In the end i got it, Got: Waived upgrade fee (was only 9 months into contract) should of been £75. SPV E100 for £35! ;) Not bad going think they got fed up with me and just gave me what i wanted to get rid of me!
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 Will you order my next upgrade for me? They treat me like I'm their bitch
Guest blackhorse Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 Will you order my next upgrade for me? They treat me like I'm their bitch Bet you havent spent over £1000 in phone bills for only 2 contracts with them in the last 6 months! For some reason after i pointed this out and threatened them with a complaint the the exec office, they couldnt offer me more! ;) When i say i got the SPV E100 for £35 they could only do this by putting a "goodwill gesture" on my account of £35 and charging £69.99 for the handset over the phone. If you ever want an upgrade lemme know i will sort you out with the right people. The chap in customer relations that upgraded me, actually introduced me to MoDaCo site he was telling me how great it is, i agree the site is great! 8)
Guest cheesypuff Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 Bugger, I wish i had known they would do some sort of match for the THREE tarrif. The SPV is so far in front of the current crop of 3G phones, although the Motorola A920 looks like a nice bit of kit. As for the GPRS on the 2G bit of THREE I will try the settings(thanks), my SPV however is displaying the G symbol at the top so does this mean I may beable to get the GPRS data?. Will get my girlfriend to try and get the Select 750 on her Orange contract, Maybe a threat of complaining to OFTEL about unfair treatment as they do say they will match other networks tarrifs may help. Cheese....
Guest pete.major Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 Hey guys... just to let you know that I read that Three know that people are putting their SIMs into 2G phones and they're actively trying to stop it. The problem is that Three pays O2 for each minute that a 3G user uses on the 2G network. Apparently they are monitoring accounts for what they consider abnormally high 2G usage (ie 100%) and writing to those customers informing them they are breaching their T&C. I think I read this on The Register or something... Personally I just complained to hell about my Three phone until they coudn't talk it any longer and they let me leave. I don't know what I was thinking when I signed up to them - that caused me months of heartarch and raised blood pressure!
Guest fozzie Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 ............Orange call it Select 750. Only available if you harass the hell outa them and threaten to leave! Otherwise it doesnt exist and they will deny all knowledge!! lol A bit more info here.
Guest cheesypuff Posted September 20, 2003 Report Posted September 20, 2003 Me Again I think THREE may find it hard to moan at people who only use the 2G part of the service as the Motorola A830 allows you to lock on to 2G only(wish my NEC 808 would), also some people with THREE phones only get coverage by a 2G signal. If I can get orange to put my contract onto the Select 500 tarrif I will try to drop my THREE account, or at least wait for my year to be up and just cancel then. Cant understand why I get perfect 2g reception on the SPV but when the sim is in the 808 the signal is dire even on 2g. Cant wait for a 3G SPV ;) , as i said I only went to THREE for cheap calls as I was getting mucked around by Orange and they didnt let me match when I enquired(guess I need to get tough and give em hell). Cheese....
