Hi,

I know its been asked before but I couldn't see a final solution. Does anyone know if there are any drivers out there that will let me use my SPV as a USB modem on my Windows ME laptop?

Cheers,

Andrew

I've just completed all the steps below on Windows 2000 SP3. Can't say if it will also work on ME I'm afraid. I assume if the driver is available for ME then the procedure is the same.

First, if you don't have the Orange CD or the driver file itself, get the Windows driver file from here:

http://www.monolithix.org/SPV_software.html - Look for USB Modem Driver

Next follow the instructions on this thread:

http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=2777

I've just done this and set-up the modem successfully.

If you want to use it to surf the Internet using the SPV on GPRS follow the bit where it tells you to put in the advanced initialisation string.

If you only want to use the SPV as a modem to access your own ISP or work dial-up connection do not enter the advanced initialisation string.

Set-up your dial-up networking connection and select the HTC USB Modem. Click configure on the modem in the dial-up connection properties and ensure the following 3 boxes are ticked:

Enable Hardware Flow Control

Enable Modem Error Control

Enable Modem Compression

This should be sufficient to have your SPV working as a USB modem then.

Cheers

There are no modem drivers for win ME and 98 as far as MS are

concerned they do not support those OS anymore.

So unfortunately you are being forced into upgrading to XP or 2000

as those are the only OS that have the modem drivers.

Thanks for your help but Windows ME doesn't like that driver. Oh well, I'll probably just have to update the laptop.

Myke - Apologies for any offence caused by my laptop coming with Windows ME as standard. I will uninstall it immediately.

Myke nice contribution to the topic

I've never had a problem with ME and use it on three of my systems.

The only reason I use XP now is it was preinstalled with my laptop.
