Guest sabio_proeliat Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 Would it, practically, be possible to overclock the xscale processor in mitac mio 8380?
Guest Richie M Posted September 20, 2003 Report Posted September 20, 2003 Er, the short answer is "no", sorry ;)
Guest sabio_proeliat Posted September 20, 2003 Report Posted September 20, 2003 But isn't suppose to run in 400mhz? Isn't the same processor as in some pocketpcs?
Guest felixdd Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Lets revive an old thread!! http://www.novomobile.com/ I used their smart-turbo. Menus and Gameboy emulator frame-rate was much faster.
Guest stohn Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Hi, the PXA255 / PXA262 (Both Xscale's) are designed to run on higher clock rates (up to 400MHz). ==> It is NOT an overclocker... This means overclocking (>400Mhz) is not possible. Running with more than 200MHz is possible. But since some drivers will not work with higher clock rates Mitac MIO with current OS can run with 300MHz only. Maik
Guest felixdd Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 I understand that. But the Mio actually runs at 200 MHz originally. This program "overclocks" it to 300.
Guest stohn Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Nope, if you bought a PC in early 90's there was a turbo switch. SmartPhoneTurbo simply doing the same thing as pressing the turbo switch on old computers. No OVERClocking, Just higher clocking. OVER means over the specifications. But specifications for processor are max. = 400 MHz. Maik
Guest felixdd Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Well you gotta draw the line somewhere. For PC overclockers, they're still achieving the maximum speed "within specs" because they just push around a few jumpers rather than push buttons. In any case, we each have our point I guess. Not really necessary to argue about it because the program's here and we know what it does. For anyone that needs this little increase in power, it's here.
Guest Zim Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Well its 300mhz is fine for me (8390)for now! lol but a great little app i must add... "Z"
Guest longj49 Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 i guess the downside to this would be reduced battery time?
Guest schriss Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 Wow, what a nice utility... Would be great if we could go up to 400MHz :D ;)
Guest mattscholey Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 So what is the downside of doing this? Why isn't the 8390 running at 300Mhz when you get it? Matt
Guest schriss Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 Heh, I wouldn't sell 300MHz smartphones right now, it's too early (what's the fastest smartphone anyway?), I'd sell some 200MHz, and in some time sell the same as 300MHz WITHOUT needing to redesign, then sell some 400MHz while keeping the same design... easy money, no additional costs of production, customers happy... :D ;)
Guest kl1wdr Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 i guess the downside to this would be reduced battery time? Nope, not quite....NovoMobile designed the tool only to apply the turbo when you really use the phone e.g. when you open your Mio. When the flip is closed it deactivates the turbo until you open it again. I must say: VERY CLEVER! 8)
Guest schriss Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 I'm just so curious if it would be possible to reach 400MHz... :D
