Guest cybercamel Posted September 21, 2003 Report Posted September 21, 2003 Hello all, had some huge problems with my phone and ended up having to do a hard reset ;) First question, went to use Orange Backup, I used to use it quite frequently, but have forgotten either my username or password, or both!! Now the helpful people at Orange have told me that they can't tell me and that they are lost forever. Now I don't know if this is just me, but is that slightly stupid, surely they must have a record somewhere? Can anyone help? Second question, can I decertify my phone with Orange OTA using Windows 98? Thanks for your help.
Guest Richie M Posted September 21, 2003 Report Posted September 21, 2003 AFAIK Orange are quite right :D as you have done a hard-reset there will be no record of your username & password anywhere, and Orange have no way of tying the files on their server to your phone. Also, i havent heard of a PC OS making any difference when using OTA, so, yes you should be able to oTA using Windows 98 ;)
Guest cybercamel Posted September 21, 2003 Report Posted September 21, 2003 Thanks for that, I thought it would be like most sites that if you forget your password or user name they would have it logged, but obviously not ;)
Guest Coucou Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 I have the same problem, but I can remember my username. Tried going on 'Forgot your password?' but my hint is far too obscure. There's no option to get a new one e-mailed to you either ;) Reckon they'll help me?
Guest pisquee Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 Your contacts/appointments etc are backed-up into Outlook, so what have you lost - some applications that you will have on your PC hard disc, or can re-download. what else can there be that is important?
Guest wbloore Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 Thanks for that, I thought it would be like most sites that if you forget your password or user name they would have it logged, but obviously not ;) The Orange Backup software only requires your username and password (email address and password hint are optional). Did you enter an email address when registering? If not, and you do not know your username there is no way Orange will be able to find your username for you. Most sites that offer a way of retrieving your username and password do so by asking for your email address, name, date of birth or other distinguishing piece of data. Orange backup doesn't require any distinguishing data to help for forgotten usernames. I prefer to use the Phone Backup software from the Mitac CD (instructions for putting this on an SPV/E100 can be found elsewhere on Modaco). This backs up your data to the SD card (or your phone if you wish). So no GPRS charges, and no need to remember usernames and passwords. This isn't much help if you lose your phone with it's SD card. But you can always copy the backup files from your SD card to PC.
