two way short range radio?

I think i might have found a solution to my expensive texting, seeing as my g/f lives about 1 mile away, im thinking two way radio could be used...instead as a cheaper option, does anyone know if there are any of these that will send text aswell as voice?

Why would you want to text if voice is free? However you'll need some way to telling her to turn her radio on and vice-versa. Maybe an initial text, then chat over the CB radios.
