I have been a bit slow on the uptake, but have just bought an SPV e100. As I'll mainly be using the phone for personal use and not really business stuff, what are the best applications and games that are worth purchasaing or downloading:?: Also are there any good content sites other than Orange and Microsoft:?: I want some better ringtones and screen pictures, and video clips.

Cheers

MM

Hi and welcome to the site ;)

There are lots and lots of places to grab ringtones etc.

First place to look is www.monolithix.org for Freeware :D

Look in our Customisation section for some homescreens/themes and ringtones

Also you can try www.coolsmartphone.com and www.google.com

Welcome to the forums, but remember that there are nearly 17000 users, and nearly 150000 messages - the answers to most questions are already there.

To get you started with some freebies check out Monolithix's site here

Do a search and you will find what you seek. Try a search for the terms in italics

Theres a very long thread with some great ringtones

Theres a thread with favourite web/wap sites

Theres a thread with recommended apps/games and "software catalogue" stuff

[edit] RichieM beat me to it ;) [/edit]

Thanks for the tips. I've just had a quick look at Monolithix, and it says to unlock my phone, is this safe? what are the pros and cons of doing this?

It's perfectly safe, there's actually an official Orange method for doing this which you should be able to find how to do somewhere on this forum, do a search for Unlock and enjoy the freeware! The beginners sections on this forum and on Coolsmartphone are really helpful. Don't forget to install most stuff to your SD card, get as big a one as you can afford.

Ok, first week with the phone and things are going well, I haven't unlocked it yet, but will do shortly. As a bit of a tech retard I have some quick questions.

1) Which is better MMC or SD card? Do they both work for SPV e100? In the forums, people mention storing MP3s on the SD/MMC, is it worth investing in a USB SD/MMC Reader/ Writer (have seen one?

2) Also how do I go about storing downloads (got thru surfing on the SPV) (games and apps) on to the SD/MMC rather than the SPV itself? One of the tips I've read seems to be to keep the memory clear of most downloads

4) If I start buying ebooks, do I need to get any specific reader software or will the SPV already be capable of displaying them?

Thnx 4 ur help

Hello m8! DON'T PANIC!!

answers -

1) Both MMC & SD cards work on the SPV e100. I have both kinds & see no difference (except in price!) but some people say MMC cards are not as good. I think that's hogwash!! Dunno about the usb reader, but I think that might be useful!!?

2) Store whatever you can onto SD card. This goes for downloads, images, applications, whatever!! The phone's internal memory isn't that big, & starts to really slow down if it gets full!

and ... 4) yeah, you do. Clearvue & repligo aare the major ones I think, I don't use 'em personally.

That's it! & don't forget, most of the answers you need are only a Search away!! Saves all the waiting around for somebody to reply!

Enjoy!!
