Guest Paul [MVP] Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003 Yet again, an AppForge upgrade has been announced, and yet again, Smartphone is left out in the cold ;) I know, I know, Smartphone will have .NET CF soon, but the MobileVB product is really great for developing cross mobile-platform products, and Smartphone support would be great. AppForge have also informed me that they have no plans to add Smartphone support in the future  P AppForge September Newsletter ************************** Topics in this e-mail ********************** - MobileVB Support for Palm OS 5 ! - MobileVB Support for Nokia Series 60 ! - AppForge Eliminates Runtime Fees from MobileVB 4.0 - MobileVB Promotions - White Paper - Agile Software MobileVB Support for Palm OS 5 ******************************************************* MobileVB 4.0, will include support for Palm OS 5 running on Palm Powered mobile devices such as the Palm Tungsten and the Sony Clié family of products. Booster is an operating system extension that enhances the functionality of handheld devices, including the ability to run the thousands of applications written with AppForge MobileVB and Microsoft Visual Basic. Download Booster for your device at http://www.appforge.com/booster. Read the full press release at http://www.appforge.com/corp/press/2003/09...-mobilevb4.html Why are these announcements significant? ************************************** 1. In the past AppForge primarily supported devices from manufacturers with whom we have a license agreement. Now, AppForge is supporting all popular mobile and wireless devices. 2. In the past, developers or their end users had to purchase a per-device runtime (Booster) in order to run AppForge applications on devices for which AppForge did not have a runtime license agreement. Now, AppForge is distributing all standard Boosters free of charge (there is no change in pricing for Booster Plus). 3. Developers will be able to use Microsoft Visual Studio to create applications for Palm (including Palm OS 5), Pocket PC (including Windows Mobile 2003), and Symbian (Sony Ericsson P800, Nokia Series 60, Nokia Series 80) devices. Guest chucky.egg Posted September 25, 2003 Report Posted September 25, 2003 I had AppForge on my P800 and I'm glad they're skipping Smartphone. The Booster app installs load of shite all over your phone, its a bugger to remove, and the apps tend to be VERY shoddy I use VB a lot, and wanted to be able to write for my P800, but AppForge is not the solution IMO
