Cannot use SPV as a modem

Can someone help me ? I am trying to use my SPV (I am in Switzerland) as a modem connection form my laptop. I have tried connecting by both the UBS cradle, and Infrared, but I get both times the same error message:

TCP/IP CP reported error 718: The connection was terminated because the remote computer did not respond in a timely manner.

What PC OS are you running?

Hi I am using Windows Pro - and I still have no luck connecting using my SPV.
