SMS Toolkit message counter goes mad

any one using the sms toolkit from electronicscience.net, as found for download at handango.com?.

I have the trial version running on my Mitac 8380

everytime I get a sms message the email counter on the homescreen shows some HUGE number ie 4578909344?

as soon as I delete the message from the build in SMS folder the counter resets to zero
