Hi,

In my never ending quest to connect my laptop to the internet using the SPV, I've realised that as GPRS is expensive it might be cheaper to use a dial-up connection. Can anyone suggest an ISP which will allow me to connect to the internet from my mobile and isn't too expensive?

Cheers,

Andrew

in the UK you can use Freeserve (www.freeserve.com) but only up to 9.6kbps.

If you want any higher speeds (known as HSCSD) you can use it up to 28.8 (I think) but you get charged at a different rate. There are special HSCSD plans/bundles to make it a bit cheaper.

Thanks. I joined Freeserve and tried connecting, but I still get the same thing happening - it just says Dialling, then never actually connects. Any idea why? I know the SPV modem is installed correctly, as I tried ringing my house phone successfully.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hhmm. Dunno. I've not used the SPV as a modem yet

Have you tried the Freeserve account via another connection?

I expect there are threads about modem use, try a search once you know the account works.

Thanks.

Yep the account works. My SPV just doesn't want to connect my laptop to the internet. I've tried eveything suggested on this site, and still no luck. Oh well.

Cheers anyway,

Andrew

Are you trying to call the Freeserve pay as you go 0845 number, or a special 0808 (anytime) type number.

You will only be able to use the 0845 number from your SPV.

I do it, and it works fine.

The 0845 number.

Also tried connecting via GPRS by dialling *99# but still no luck.
