Guest dculbert Posted September 26, 2003 Report Posted September 26, 2003 I'm having problems getting my spv connected to my laptop. Originally I wanted to use the phone as a modem over IR, and when that failed, I tried using activesync over the IR and cannot get that to detect the device. I'm using windows 2000 and it can detect the phone ok through wireless link, but does not recognise it as a standard modem over IR and neither will it detect it through activesync. Has anyone else had this problem or found any solutions? PS - I've run through Microsoft's troubleshooter upto the point there it links you to the win 2k hardware troubleshooter - which has been removed! Any help is greatly appreciated as I have to go to the middle of nowhere tomorrow!
Guest dculbert Posted September 26, 2003 Report Posted September 26, 2003 Just some more info - The phone connects fine with a USB cable and when the "Your Device was not detected" screen it says that all the com, infrared and USB ports are available
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 26, 2003 Report Posted September 26, 2003 Did you plug the phone into the PC before insalling Activsync?
Guest dculbert Posted September 26, 2003 Report Posted September 26, 2003 No...plugged it in after. I installed it then tried to get it connect via IR only. Is that te prefered method rather than installing via USB first?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 26, 2003 Report Posted September 26, 2003 Install Activsync first then plug the cradle in, that's the prefered method. Instead of Infrared you could always use a sync and charge cable ;) Have a look here for more IRDA info http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=4294
Guest dculbert Posted September 26, 2003 Report Posted September 26, 2003 I followed those directions but the step which says: 4. Windows XP will automaticall install (NO DRIVERS REQUIRED!) a Modem called Standard Modem over IRLINK will be added (A sound will eventually indicate this!) is the bit that doesn't seem to happen. Is there a driver required for the SPV or something for the laptop that I'm missing? Like I said before, I have a Wireless Link (with win2k) so connectivity isn't a problem, therefore I'm leaning towards a driver issue? But beyond that I'm soooooo lost!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 26, 2003 Report Posted September 26, 2003 There is a USB modem driver I do not know if it may help :? http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...=asc&highlight= That's about me done as I do not have IRDA on the laptop ;) Hopefully someone else may be able to give better insight?
Guest dculbert Posted September 26, 2003 Report Posted September 26, 2003 yerrr.....downloaded that before and installed it on the lapdog. Didn't make any difference - thanks for your help tho awarner ;) Anyone else want to save this poor dell lapdog from being put down?
Guest dculbert Posted September 26, 2003 Report Posted September 26, 2003 Right! The modem works with USB fine. Just tested that, but the IR is still a mystery. Is there an issue with win 2k that anyone is aware of with Wireless link? This is soooooo annoying
