Guest mavisdavis Posted September 26, 2003 Report Posted September 26, 2003 NTL USERS If you have difficulty getting into the forum or browsing the net in general try the following: IE Properties > Connections > LAN Settings Disable "Automatically detect settings" Proxy server > enable " Use a proxy sever for your LAN" Address = cache1-blfs.server.ntli.net Port = 8080 Seems NTL are having trouble with DNS Thanx goes to Paul[MVP] for sorting that out for me
Guest Mr_Protozoa Posted September 26, 2003 Report Posted September 26, 2003 have made the change. lets see if it makes any differance.
Guest Shuflie Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 That's the belfast proxy server, you might want to use the manchester one if you're in the north of england, just change blfs to mant. You also have the choice of using cache1 to cache6 with manchester, I'm not sure just how many are on the belfast network.
Guest FrankyG Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 I found that it wasn't NTL that caused my problems, it was Utterly and Completely IE6 service pack 1 which screwed DNS....Ok NTL may be having problems also, but I was dual booting for a while with 2k and XP, XP with IE6 (no SP) internet browsing was perfect. my 2c's
Guest Rob.P Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 A little clarity, the service pack for IE did screw with HTTP browsing on NTL, all other services worked fine though, and problem must have been fixed cause mine is working again. The other reason for slow and somtimes non-access to HTTP browsing is that the recent virus MSBlast and the other one (can't remember it's name) are still running on some NTL Customers PC's until these muppets patch their machines we will all suffer as the NTL network is flooded everytime these lazy good for nothings switch their PC on. Hence if you phone support why you have to go through the virus check, if you fail the virus check, NTL ban you from using the network until you are patched, which is fair enough. I usually find that it gets worse when the kids have been kicked out of school.
