Guest spacemonkey Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 I happened to pick up a copy of PC Format today. It had a listing of a SPV E100 (with a picture of the original SPV) and then a long article about syncing details to your device. The interesting thing was that all the syncing pictures showed an SPV, but the screen contents in these shots didn't look like anything I'd seen before... were these dodgy photoshop images? or maybe this SPV was running PocketPC phone edition or something bizare... you decide ;) Anyway, here's some shots from the lazy mans scanner (camera)attachments.jpgmail.jpgringtone.jpgbluetooth.jpgcalendarfind.jpg
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 They look just like picture cards have been inserted behind the screen ;)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 That's a p800 screenshot! P
Guest idavid Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 that really is dumb. what a lot of effort to go to! its not like the phone is new or hard to get hold of to take actual screen shots!
Guest spacemonkey Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 Well, they had the P800 in their list of devices later on anyway... wonder why they decided to copy the screen shots into it's main competitor... madness.
Guest DMF Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 Good question - lets ask ;) http://forum.pcformat.co.uk/viewtopic.php?...p=185218#185218
Guest cyrilthefish Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 beat you to it! ;) http://forum.pcformat.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=14299
Guest DMF Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 Well thx for posting the link to it (before me ;))and saving me the borther lol ....
Guest Matt Whitfield Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 Oh dear, that really did start a bit of an arguement on the PCFormat forums! ](*,) ;)/
Guest DMF Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 Is it just me or are those forums slow and close to unuseable anyway ?
Guest mores Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 i haven't read the article, but apparently it's not ABOUT the spv, but more of smartphones in general with the explicit mention of the p800. well, i think in that case it's not so much a mistake as simply a failed attempt of some graphic artist to create something original. but who knows ... maybe we'll all be using a MICROSOFT smartphone with SYMBIAN OS :)lol
Guest vijay555 Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 It was smartphones in general, but although SPV was CLEARLY best, i think they used whatever screenshots were pertinent to the point they were making. There was no device consistency at all! Fairly good laymans intro to the phones tho! Treo 600 for me ;) V
Guest stuartd Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 I read some of the replies on the PCF forum and think they're laughable. PC Format clearly used screenshots of the GUI of another phone and put that onto the SPV. That's not simply a mistake as that wou;d surely only happen with one or 2 images, it's either a deliberate attempt at misleading the readers (doubtful), complete incompetence or a joke. I used to have a sub' to PCF years ago and cancelled it because the quality of the magazine plummeted, I had thought it was getting better (browsing in WHSmiths) but that article is pathetic.
Guest DMF Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 The point I was trying to hint at over there was the fact that if someone sees the Orange SPV phone with those screens and decides - I WANT THAT MODEL PHONE - and buys it, then appart from the bonus that we get a new member here, PCF are in fact misleading the public about the capability OF the SPV phones and should be held accountable for that by the duped buyer. Surely a case for Trading Standards ?
Guest stuartd Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 If PCF have any honesty or journalistic integrity at all they'll issue a detailed and complete correction as soon as possible in their magazine.
