Guest fergiem Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 Three unrelated questions - 1) Is there any way of reading chinese script on the SPV (sms etc)? 2) I've just downloaded a game from Monolithix and when I put in the 'games' section and tried to start in on my phone it said that I did not have it digitally signed...what does this mean and how do I rectify it? Finally 3) I'm now based in China and SPV working beautifully but how do I sign up for gprs roaming? I'm not technically gifted so any help much appreciated Oh, and final point - I went to a backward Chinese town the other day and think that my phone got a virus as I was sent an sms every 5 seconds and had to turn my phone off and then that evening had 300 sms' with gibberish written on them - has anyone else had a virus and what do you do when you get them? Cheers Fergie
Guest Crispy Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 The game problem is due to your phone being "app locked". That means that it will only run signed code. There are 2 ways to remove this. 1) u use the offical method that Orange has provided, called OTA 2) You flash your phone with a 3rd party app unlokced rom file, for example Imate, Qtek or Eurotel. BTW: Why did you post this in the Danish forum???
Guest fergiem Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 I told you I was not technically gifted! I've also posted it in the main help and advice now... Thanks for the unlock advice - can you give me a little more help on option 2 as I'm based in Hong Kong and option 1 is not working. Do you mean that I have to go into a shop and get it unlocked or that I have to visit the Qtek website? Thanks Fergie
Guest Crispy Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 To install a 3rd party rom you have to download it of the internet and install when the phone is in the cradle. An example could be the Imate rom, which can be download here. To install it you need to put your phone into what is called "3-colour mode". To do this hold down the record button and the action button (the one in the middle of the joypad) while you turn on the phone. When asked to press any key, press any key ;) ... After this you put the phone into the cradle and start the update from your PC. It takes around 20min to update. The prosedure should be the same with the other roms. Note: These 3rd party roms does not contain all those extra orange program, like "check for update" etc.
Guest fergiem Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 Okay....cheers for the info so far but....which button is the record button and where do I store the download that I just downloaded so that it is the right place when I place the phone in the cradle? Sorry for being such a doofus.
Guest fergiem Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 Managed to get it into 3 colours mode by taking the sim card out. ;) But was unable to move the 'upgrade' file to the smart phone as it said there was nor enough space - please delete some files - that sh1t begins to scare me. Do I have to do a hard reboot and then install the upgrade and where do I store the upgrade so that it downloads when I put the phone in the cradle? I will buy you a cyber beer if you sort this out for me once and for all! cheers....

Holding that down together with the middle action button while turning on the phone brings you to the bootloader. It doesn't matter where you place the file you just downloaded. You could for example place it on the desktop. Update: You don't move the files to the phone. You run the upgrade file from your PC. It then flashes the phone rom PS: If there are any more problems, feel free to contact me one MSN
