I used to sync my Ipaq with Notes using Intellisync (this used the MS ActiveSync connection) doesnt work with the SPV though...

Anyone know how I can sync Lotus Notes email, contacts and appointments with my SPV??

Thanks

I have the same issue. As yet, none of the vendors for this kind of technology support the SmartPhone devices, and I've seen no formal announcements that they will.

The next best thing is to persuade your organisation to switch to Exchange :-<

My company uses Lotus Notes and it is ABSOLUTELY F***G SH**E... So I don't use it for anything but e-mails... All my (own) emails/contacts/tasks/calendar - all on my home pc oin outlook.

What you can do though is import Lotus Database in Outlook, but this would mean that you have to:

1. 'Sync' Outlook with Notes

2. Sync SPV with Outlook

1. Sync Outlook with SPV

2. 'Sync' Notes with Outlook (using Import...)

Obviously - this is a pain in the A**E!

The problem is that the phone uses Outlook-type database, so if you could sync with Notes, it would have to do a similar 'Import' function (though automatically in the background..)

I would think though that some software that is capable of doing this will be out, not soon though..

If you want my oppinion - if you can, at all, switch to using Outlook for time management and use Notes for company e-mail. Have another e-mail account to work with your SPV. Ias far as I know, Lotus Notes Server at my work is not set up for EXTERNAL RETREIVAL of EMAILS, so there is no POP/SMTP server for that. Can only get mail while connected to company LAN or through their own Dial-Up service - which makes SPV useless with that e-mail account... Dough!!

Hopes I make myself clear. Note: Your company might have different configs to what I have described..

You are right mudukranian, Lotus Notes is the biggest piece of cr@p I have ever come accross - Come back Bill, all is forgiven (never thought Id ever say how good a MS product is).. Personally I think its here to keep IS Support technicians in jobs.. Anyway thanks for your replies, my company has the same config you talk about no POP, no f**kin use!

I disagree with you all,

Lotus Notes is the best thing since sliced bread. If you had any sense and looked at the primary strength of Notes (Collaboration (WorkFlow) and Knowledge Management) rather than focussing on Email you would understand this.

Chances are, you guy's couldn't tell the difference if you were using SendMail with an Outlook client so why not ask to have an IMAP database setup so you can use the outlook client with notes?

Anyway I better go because one of the Notes servers gone down. :D

Notes - hmm - have to agree it ain't that hot. We use it at work (as we own lotus :D ) and we are moving lots of our systems off using it due to it not being able to do what we need it to.

Kizeron, two things:

First, read your signature? Does it say Lotus Architect?? So why would you not htink it's the BEST thing since sliced bread if that's part of your life at the mo (just as bread).?!

Second - it is ugly, robust, not intuitive (or not AS) and is pretty crap.. It seems isolated from rest of the world and is still in many companies just because it's much cheaper to upgrade then setup a whole new system and tech all how to operate it...

Though I agree it's much more flexible and adaptible to specific company needs and many addons can be quite easily written for it..

Personally i think, as time management Outlook is pretty damn GOOOOODD!! You have all the same features, that interact really well, easier to use, looks good, it's MS, so is initially 'more' compatible with ms os and comes with a full set of office apps (if you buy the whole lot). And don't even start me on Lotus 1-2-3 - the biggest piece of crap i have ever seen in my life!!! (and i don't like sliced bread as much as proper baked bread either..)

So when you put it all together, especially if you are running an MS server - Exchange is the way to go with Corporate Outlook and magic features. Not as easy to write addons for that, but it's pretty much got most of it... Specific apps can be developd for a price I guess, or could be using a different architecture in general...

So that's my verdict. Nothing personal..

PS: and i used to work with a Netware netwok, what can i say - MS is definitely the way to go.. though many ppl don't realiise it. it's buggy, but it is so versitile and powerfull (most ms apps) that they are prone to have faults - constantly fixed by updates though!

Regarding syncing Notes with Smarphone.

The software to use is XTND Connect. I have been in contact and only the latest version is Smartphone compatible which you cannot get a demo off. But after talking to them I have found out that the latest version is NOT signed by Orange so it still will not work.

They are going to let me know when they do have a signed version

Certification must go!! It is not an option if the phone is to survive, live and develop... Sad they decided to play gods and cut us all off from great functionality and brilliant experience!!

A few points,

1. This debate has been going on for as long as I can remember. I agree that Notes is on it's way out and that outlook is the current defacto emailing client.

2. Rob_Quads, I work for the company that own Lotus too.

3. I can understand why Orange locked down public level code publication. But why an earth have they locked it down on the private side.

I've written to both Commontime and Xtnd, and neither have a working product at the moment.
