Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 I'm sick to death of the headphones that came with the SPV - they're simply a load of s*** quality rubbish  I've looked high and low for replacements, but can't seem to find any here (Denmark) with a micro-jack. The only phones that fitted were a pair of Nokias but the resistance was wrong for the SPV. One guy in the MS NG gave me a tip that I should use the foamy things for normal personal stereo 'phones but can I find any replacements here? Fat fing chance :( Anyone got any ideas? Any place that sells decent (small) headphones? Anyone got any old foamy thingies they don't want? Otherwise I'll have to make some 'phones up myself - I don't care if I lose the PTT button on the wire, it's the music reproduction that matters most to me. Any help gratefully received :D Cheers, Chris : )
Guest madu Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 Right then, I got my Sony Groove (the ones that have rubber things going inside your ears) - lovely headphones, really.. So I took the rubber things off SPV set and replaced with the Sony ones (was a shame I had to take them off sony ones..). So now I have crap h-phones that stay in your ears instead of falling out every other minute... And I don't know what to say about the actual quality of sound, but I think i'll find some Mr.Fix-it and ask him to replace the actual earpieces with better ones, and maybe shorten the cord too... Bloody loooooong, innit??
Guest hex Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 Why don't you go to a Hi Fi shop and get a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter. That's what I did and I use it as an MP3 player in the car through a cassette adapter. Sounds H E A V Y!
Guest hotphil Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 Maplins to the adaptors for 79p (item code FA94C). Got mine today. Much better to use my nice 'phones on way home today. Phil
Guest Mark Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 Trium Mondo headsets work with the SPV :D Not that Trium are in Any Way Quality!!
Guest The Futures Bright Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 I was thinking about getting those headphones £35 in Curry's and Dixons, is the sound quality good? or are you just paying for the silicone earpads and the Sony name? Oh and I already have the Maplins 2.5 - 3.5 stereo adaptor, works a treat if a little on the longish side. :D Any advice appreciated, Ta. :(
Guest chewie Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 I havent worn a pair of walkman style headphones in about 3 years, i thought they sound pretty good
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 Hmm - little bro' lives in the UK, loox like I'll have to send him on a quest for decent headphones....Orange over here sell some 'phones with micro-jack/integrated radio but the resistance was far too high, could hardly hear the music - anyone have any idea what resistance the SPV's phones are? 8 ohm? Wish I'd nicked the old foamy bits off my old SL45 before I gave it away.... Chris : )
Guest Tobers Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 The sound quality is not that bad. The problem is that the earpieces are the wrong shape! As well as the "buds" that go in your ear being incorrectly shaped, the little "arm" that dangles down from the round bit of the earpiece does not sit close to your head. In fact, it sticks out to the side of your head a bit. As a result, any minor pressure on the cord means that the "arm" bit of the earpiece is pulled closer to your head. The round "bud" which is in your ear is then levered out of your ear as the earpiece pivots against the bottom of your ear. The earpiece then falls out of your ear. so as soon as you move your head or the cord is tugged by your shirt or whatever, the earpieces fall out. Again, an abject failure in the testing process. Either that or Orange have very low standards and suggest that such rubbish is acceptable. Its not good enough!
Guest The Futures Bright Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 Cheers Tobers, But i was refrring to the Sony Groove headphones, at £35 which i was thinking about purchasing. I couldnt agree with you more about the Orange suppled headphones, they sound not too bad but the design stinks. I have contacted madukranian to see what he thinks of his Sony Groove headphones. David.

Again, an abject failure in the testing process. Either that or Orange have very low standards and suggest that such rubbish is acceptable. Its not good enough! ....and the cheeky cow in my local Orange store had the nerve to imply that I was whining and that she couldn't believe that the earphones could be so bad. Think I'll copy all the earphone-related complaints from here/NG's and mail them to Orange. This problem is really beginning to piss me off, Orange's laissez-faire attitude (here in Denmark anyway) just isn't good enough given the price we have to pay for the phone here - 3699 DKK, 300 quid in real money.
Guest wazi Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 Well - I'm glad coz I thought it was just MY ears. A bit of a blessing in disguise coz I somwhow managed to break the tiny point of the jack - now they dont work! I'm gonna do the maplin thing - how about answering calls?
Guest moo_ski_doo Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 I know this is a bit of an old post but it's still relevant and I wanted to know if anyone's come up with a better solution yet? I like the Maplin idea, but since I want to listen to music while the phone's in my pocket, and the Maplin one sticks out directly sidewards, I've found an alternative which I'm sure will work: http://www.pocketpctechs.com/detail.asp?Pr...t_ID=PPCPADPT04 . It's a bit pricier but I reckon it'll be worth it. Also, does anyone know if this will work: http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=106426 ? It looks right (2.5mm jack to 3.5mm socket) but it specifically says Samsung so I'm not sure (I'm sure the other one will work since it works with the XDA, which uses the same accessories as the SPV since it's made by HTC too.) Given that I want a solution to the problem of listening to music at a higher quality with more comfortable headphones (I'm not bothered about them having a microphone but if it's very small it would be a bonus,) does anyone have any other ideas?
Guest lowbug Posted November 12, 2003 Report Posted November 12, 2003 Not fit for the purpose sold for..... Mmmmmm....
Guest HelloDave Posted November 12, 2003 Report Posted November 12, 2003 I like my Frankenstein earphones - HTC cord and mic with some Sony earpieces soldered on in place of the orignal ones  It's a bit of work, but worth it! The sound improved a fair bit too.
Guest alanclose Posted November 13, 2003 Report Posted November 13, 2003 The nokia 2.5 - 3.5mm audio adapter you got free with the 5510 works perfectly. I just bought a pair of Sennheiser PX200's the combination is excellent
Guest moo_ski_doo Posted November 13, 2003 Report Posted November 13, 2003 Cheers for that, nice idea with just one problem: I never had a 5510! Still, looks exactly the same as the one I just ordered from Expansys so looks like that should work fine  Will share my findings on here when I've had a chance to try it out.
Guest azamsaghir Posted November 13, 2003 Report Posted November 13, 2003 I bought that adaptor from Expansys recently. I use it in my car to output my MP3 sound of the SPV E100 through the car speakers. This works great! However, this combination should also work using as a Hands-Free Kit for incoming calls because the mic should not get disabled when the adaptor is connected. This worked flawlessly when I first bought the adaptor but nowadays it is a bit 'dicky'. I do not know the reason for this. Could be faulty adaptor?? Could be SPV bug that has developed. It's a shame but maybe it's just me. Rgds Azam
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted November 13, 2003 Report Posted November 13, 2003 It looks as though the E-200 comes with these headphones too  Never mind, the 3.5mm jacks loos as thought hey can do the job  spacecowboy
