Guest kmon Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 hello gang. Me has just got off the phone to orange and had a very long and intersting conversasion with tech support.. they told me they are 'logging' problems with software versions that are freezing and locking up the phone the version number???? V 1.1.6.0 guess what thats mine i said... what you doing about it i asked??? :?: well she said.... @ the moment we are logging these faults to see if there are enough people with the issue to deal with it?????!!!!!! what, so me who has this inop software version does waht in the mean time??? so please check your versions... PROGRAMS> MORE> SETTINGS> ABOUT> scroll down and there it is if you have the same version and your phone appears to lock-slow-or the timer appears more than you would like call 156 goto option 1 then 1 and report your faults..... love the phone :D loath the problems  kmon....
Guest spacemonkey Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 Mine is 1.1.6.0 I was unaware that there were any different versions in the wild at the moment. Personally I've had a few minor crashes and one major hang in IE that required battery removal to fix. But in general the phones pretty stable and I'm lovin it. As to they are just logging it etc... we're all expecting an update of software and stuff soon. I think it may just be yet another inconsistent message from call centre staff who really don't know what is happening. They just log stuff and pass it on and as much as possible try and convince the user that everything will be fine. To be honest, I wouldn't believe a word CS tells you, having looked through this forum they don't even seem to get their story consistant on billing, let alone any technical questions.
Guest rcraswell Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 Yup, all currently available phones should be version 1.1.6.x (the "x" just indicates the country for which the phone was built.) --ron
Guest madu Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 I second that Spacemonkey!! I have 1.1.6.0 (UK). Some minor faults + the usual set of little probs + 1 or 2 major f**k-ups. Otherwise - it seems to be fine (ish). Don't think I would rush to replace it coz of my OS version. I am worried though that orange may FIX some things that AIN'T broke... >> More probs?? Network unlock solution - gone?!? Who knows...
Guest fbianchi Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 in france 1.1.6.7 ! but buggy the same way, i will get a third one tomoroww and i will check !
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 I have 1.1.6.8 (Denmark) - have had no problems of any note, nothing that could be called a bug at any rate. Over here the SPV was released on 21.11.2002 - later than other countries? Whatever, I haven't farted about with mine too much - If I knacker it, it's back to the company 6210; no thanks : )
Guest ukmailserver Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 Mmm. I'll be calling Orange this morning as I do run that version. The problems I get is that the main screen does freeze. The top of the screen does seems to follow what you are pressing though. Does this mean I will need a new phone. Can't they upgrade "over the air" or is this a hardware revision change? Cheers Barry
Guest ukmailserver Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 Yes. I have this problem I have spkoen to Orange today and they tell me that a replacement MMC card will be sent to me in the new year to resolve this problem. The women on the phone explained that theirs do this in the office as well. She said that clearing the memory cache may fix the problem. No it doesn't as I always keep the cache clear. I asked if the MMC card they are going to send out has some sort of update on it as a blank one is no good to anyone as I have already put a bigger one in for extra storage. I told her that I know the phone needs replacing and she said she would ring back. Guess what she did not ring me back. I rang and spoke to another help desk person who had never heard of this problem but he did say he knew about a lot of problems. Mmmm.... I have got a fault reference code and have been told I need to return the phone to my retailer to get a replacement. I asked if the replacement would have the same version of code or whatever is at fault on it and he said no. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm we'll see. I asked if I could have a courier replacement and he said it would be easier to go back to the retailer. So do they really know what they are talking about as it seems that each operator seem to have their own remedy to the problem or do they have an electronic random answer generator. If they do lets hope it does not run on the SmartPhone2002 Operating System. ----------------------------------------------- Barry ----------------------------------------------- This phone can only get worse
Guest pibrahim Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 Erm.. Does anyone here *not* actually have the software revision mentioned?! Surely its the only one available?
Guest Thurstan Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 I had a problem where my phone locked up and after I removed the batt to turn it off (is this the ONLY way to turn it off when it does this???) it would not turn on again. I had to return it to Orange and I'm now on my second phone. Plus half of the keypad light didn't work on my first one anyway. I hope it doesn't happen again has anyone got any ideas over how to stop it happening?
Guest Thurstan Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 oh by the way when i said it wouldn't turn on again I meant it stuck on the first screen... the one with the rising/setting (probably!) sun...
Guest dwight Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 I had the same problem wiht my SPV, phone stuck on Orange sunrise screen. Removing the battery did not resolve this so I had to do a HARD RESET to sort this out... although it resets the phone to a "just out of the box" state. Pain in the @#$£ as just that day I added some calender entries and changed some contact details and never got the chance to sync it to my PC. :D
