I heard from someone that he had an ipaq and added something to make it a cellphone... anyone can confirm this...

just wondering it would be great... a fast smartphone but one problem though is battery...

Yes there is one. I've yearned for it 2 years ago in the pre-smartphone era. It's an accessory that you'll plug-in to your ipaq, looks like a helmet and looks awful. I don't know if they've restructured that already or if it still exists. Last inquire it costs around $300. Better do a search via google to confirm. ;)

thats not something new...its just a GSM module/ sleeve that you can attach to your iPaq so you could use it as a cellphone...but it will make the PocketPC a lot bulky ;)

I guess the newest PDA-Phone (or PocketPC Phone Edition) is the O2 XDA

d GSM sleeve is also buggy, i think Compaq discontinued it before they merged with HP. ;)

I think i was that person you were referring to. I did not use the GSM/GPRS sleeve for the ipaq because it is bulky. Instead, i used a GSM/GPRS CF card (from Audiovox) and attached to the ipaq using a silver slider sleeve. As expected it was a one of a kind. Really svelte!!!! Sure turned a lot of heads. As you may imagine though, battery drain on my 3850 was MONSTROUS! I had to recharge from almost no power everyday. It was fun having it though at that time. I included an attachment with a picture of it.

EDIT awarner image removed as a much smaller image posted below

I almost bought a GSM sleeve for my ipag early this year when smartphone was not out yet. i saw one in mobile 1 (only one unit and @ discounted price) for a little over 10K. It has an extended batt. ... yung nga lang talaga, masyadong malaki as a cellphone... para kang me icepack sa pisngi mo... hehe. ;) ...

It's a good thing i waited a little longer for the smartphone.. :D

Well, here is some news for you.

There will be about 3 Pocket PC Phone Edition devices which will be sold here in the Philippines. First is the O2 XDA II, next is the E-Ten P300 and the third one is the E-Ten P700. Battery life on these devices are better than an iPAQ with a CF GSM/GPRS card as the devices can run on sleep mode. The battery management of the O2 XDA II and even the older O2 XDA is much better than the iPAQ solution of before.

The new iPAQs on the other hand have been improved too, with better battery life now and with larger batteries, the CF GSM/GPRS card shouldn't prove to be any problem for it.

To be released within 2 months. :-)

So that's in several weeks for the Eten I guess. I'll hold another Users group meeting when the first devices arrive.
