Guest benjymous Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 I was messing around running various .exe's in the /windows folder (I know, I must've run something I shouldn't have) when suddenly the phone decided to reboot However it didn't do a normal reboot It went something like this (and I get this whenever I turn it on, now) Sunset screen White screen (with 3 beepity noises at 5 second intervals) eventually, after a minute or so I get an error message CheckDeviceID.exe Error ------- Can't find 'CheckDeviceID' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all the required libraries are available Ok The phone is device locked at this stage, and unlocking works as normal Selecting OK this took me to the phone number dialing screen, but no calls can be made as it's not getting signal (or finding anything in the phonebook) Pressing the Home key takes me to a totally white screen, with the Programs | Contacts soft key menu headings at the bottom, but pressing the buttons don't do anything A few seconds later I get another error home.exe Error ------- There is no application associated with "home". Run the application first and then open this file inside the application Ok Pressing OK again takes me back to the dialing screen, although pressing home no longer takes me to the ghost home screen Also, pressing the record button pops up an error saying that it can't find poutlook Am I into hard reset territory, or can someone suggest a magic fix to sort out whatever I've done to my poor phone?
Guest Richie M Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 Hard reset i'm afraid m8, looks like your registry is dead :D Dunno about CheckID.exe but home.exe is the program that provides your homescreen. Therefore it looks like the XML file association with it is missing :? Dunno how you managed it, but dont do it again ;)
Guest benjymous Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 Yeah, I gave up in the end and did a hard reset :? Now the fun of getting everything re-setup back the way it used to be
Guest mvsmith07 Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 Just as an addition to the conversation, because you've obviously resolved the problem with a hard reset now, I believe there is a program in the Windows directory, which kindly does some kind of mass deletion of everything when executed. I seem to remember reading a thread somewhere, which mentioned this program. Unfortunately, I can't remember the thread or what search I was using to come upon the thread in the first place. I think you may well have come across this program and executed it.
