Is Go worth learning? I've heard it's name banded around here and there, but I've never seen anyone have a board for it, let alone play it!

it's the game that Othello, Gomuku et al are all derived from

very tactical game, but games take a while to play on full size boards (19x19)

often the games are played on smaller boards in computer games

muff how old is go then? as I thought othello was a very old game

from Japan :?

Also I could never understand the rules of GO anywhere I can read up on it?

GO is from Japan, and is ancient - Othello (created 1971, released 1975) is a rebrand of Reversi, which itself was created in the 1880's

GO is over 3000 years old and is still played in leagues all over the world, though mostly in Japan obviously

there are places in the UK to play, and you can get cheap cardboard boards with plastic counters over here (the originals are slabs of wood, with stone / ivory pieces)

there are plenty of places to find the rules, but how about http://www.britgo.org/ - the British Go Association - lots of info and links on there

there are also PC version of the game with computer AI out there if you look in the download section

If you are interested in GO, and if you like watching Mangas, try looking for "Hikaru no go" a very good manga based on GO.
