Guest mwille Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 Well, it has been well discussed.. the removal of the startup folder items like eloff.lnk, EZpushrouter.lnk, LaunchSTK.lnk, MMSSvc.lnk and SMSclassZero.lnk. Been there, done that, feels like it speeded up the phone somewhat. There's one item left now though I am not yet comfortable with removing just yet : USSD.lnk linking to USSD.exe in windows. It means "Unstructured Supplementary Service Data", that much I've figured out and its supposed to do this : "Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) is a technology unique to GSM. It is a capability built into the GSM standard for support of transmitting information over the signaling channels of the GSM network. USSD provides session-based communication, enabling a variety of applications. In operation, USSD is used to send text between the user and some application. USSD should be thought of as a trigger rather than an application itself. However, it enables other applications such as prepaid. In operation, it is not possible to bill for USSD directly, but instead bill for the application associated with the use of USSD such as circuit switch data, SMS, or prepaid" :? Riiiiight... Makes sense, but do I need it to be starting on boot and running all day everyday ?? Anybody know which application or service uses this ? If not absolutely needed its outa here ! ;)
Guest yoos Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 mwille, How did you get on removing USSD??? I'm messing with removing some of my startup shortcuts right now...
Guest mwille Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 I kicked everything out of the startup folder (that is I backuped them to elsewhere ) So these shortcuts are no longer executed : Addcontact.lnk eloff.lnk EzPushrouter MMSSvc.lnk Remotenotify.lnk SmsClasszero.lnk USSD.lnk I have not experienced adverse effects so far..
Guest Disco Stu Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 Sorry to butt in, but where are you guys moving these to ? Can they not simply be deleted ?
Guest mwille Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 Sure, you could delete them.. I just feel safer having them around just in case I run in to trouble because of these missing shortcuts. So I just made a folder "startup originals" in IPSMwindows and dropped 'm in there
Guest Disco Stu Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 Hmmm...so what about Storage CardWindowsStartup Originals ? I've no idea yet what size they are but I'm assuming that the location is not important. Going to give it a go
Guest mwille Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 Location is irrelevant, and they're shortcuts so the size is in the tiny to very tiny range
