how do i back up installed progs?

is there any way of keeping all downloaded and installed programs so that they dont have to be downloaded again after a crash and hard reset :?: i also seem to be having probs with active sinc, it connects ok and goes thru the motions, but then says it can't complete syncronisation #-o any help would be much appreciated. great site by the way, i have just saved my spv thanks to your information, a lot more use than orange, who are taking up to a week to get an answer from technical support. :?
