As far as I was aware, Microsoft Agent ( text to speech ) has been available since Win95. Not as part of the 95 set up but a downloadable addition.

For some time I had a wizzard who used the Agent TTS to read my ICQ inbound messages. There were variations of it for Yahoo, MSN.

It got to be a pain after a bit.

However if you interested in The Microsoft Agent Characters start here.

There are sites just for that app .

( MASH was another addition to help make custom sayings and motion )

MASH is great, creates code for your VB apps or web pages too :-)

Maybe mid should make a MoDaCo Dude agent character we could use around the site using the MS Agent ActiveX control ;-) (j/k)

Wasn't there text to speach software for the like of the Commodore 64 & Speccy days? Dr Hawkings (respect!) has had his speach thing for a very long time. Probably doesn't want to upgrade, 'cos no one will recognise his voice.

One of my friends went to one of his lectures a few years ago, and he runs on Windows himself, halfway through his terminal crashed, and a techie came out, and rebooted him, chiming the Windows theme out! brill!

You'd think Microsoft would use that as a marketing point!

[edit] Well. not the crash part though!
