Guest Greywolf_Ghost Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003    I have been keeping my eye on development on Sony Robitics since ABIO ( little soccer playing dog ). I liked the idea but just never realy fell for an animated puppy. Then Sony anounced the SDR4X, I fell in love with the concept. A fully independent walking human like robot. Sony gave it a name and relaunched it some time ago. Sony QRIO ( pronounced curio....like curio cabbnet ) It sings, talks, can dance, has face and vioce imprinting ( will know who you are ), can connect to the internet and provide information, self righting ability ( knows when it will fall and brace for impact, then get up under it's own power), the limits seem endless. This little bot is da shizzz nit !! The QRIO site: http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/QRIO/top.html Some high band videos ( some fire walls may have issues with these streams ), I just disable to view and reenable when done. On surfboard to show ability of ballance http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/pc/docs/200...0320/sony1b.htm Can find it's own way through a mess ( self navigate ) http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/pc/docs/200...0320/sony2b.htm Falls down and gets up on it's own http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/pc/docs/200...0320/sony3b.htm Singing ( I love this video the best ) http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/pc/docs/200...0320/sony4b.htm Sync Dance http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/pc/docs/200...0320/sony5b.htm There is one other video I am still lokking for, where it demo's it's ability to use voice and face imprint. And when the Sony Tech takes the little guy away from the Girl it becomes sad to leave, but waves good bye. *EDIT* Found a copy of it, tho it's kinda small and in Quicktime http://www.tokyodv.com/news/SonySDR-4XRobot.html
Guest MaJiK Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 love it ! Where can I get one ? And more to the point - How Much ? ! ? !
Guest morpheus2702 Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 Dancing Terminators?!? Fan-f***ing-tastic!
Guest Greywolf_Ghost Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 Last I knew a development model was in around 10,000 bucks. I have heard they may be a Christmas 2004 item. No solid plans for full production that I am aware of....however I could be wrong and hope they do make these available. I will start saving my pennies now !!!!!!!
Guest idavid Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 cant remember where, but i heard that they had terrible battery life and they are very heavy due to expensive components which was hampering any attempt at making them viable consumer things. thats prob changed by now though...
Guest nickcornaglia Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 I always wanted an Aibo. They were cute when they just walked around and pretended to play. But when the newer models could be remotely controlled via WiFi and used as survalence, as well as the ability to read your email to you when you walked in the door, they're value went up for me. Alittle more functionality and the prices may be worth it. Ebay usually has good deals on these older dog models. But I like the idea of the robot better. I wonder when the functionality will evolve enough and the price will drop to a reasonable level where it can be thought of as a valued and almost necessary appliance? Like idavid said.... Right after that evolution, they will ban together and rise against it's creators. I may as well start getting ready for pod-life now.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Here's the cheaper (but bigger) model. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=19198
Guest ajb3000 Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 if they released them I would have to save up and buy one, how cool would that be! anyway of downloading them and not streaming? 56k causes problems there :)
