Guest dogbert Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 while blowing dust off my spv e100's lcd using an airbrush i smudged it with my finger. the finger print is very prominent and i'd like to remove the stain of course. i don't know of a safe way of accomplishing this. i read about the 3m scotch brite high performance cloth (actual product name) and how it removes oils stains from fingers without solvents. it looks safe but i don't want to risk my screen without getting any testimonials. Is wiping the bare LCD of my e100 absolutely safe?
Guest dogbert Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 after searching the forums i saw a post where a guy ruined his spv's lcd by wiping it with something. didn't say if it was the e100 or the original spv. is the e100's lcd as fragile as the first spv?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 Yes they are different but still just as fragile. The only thing you can clean is the cover not the LCD if you try and clean it you will make it worse ;)
Guest dogbert Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 i went ahead and cleaned it anyway. the oil stain from the finger print is gone and as far as i can tell the lcd is undamaged. whatta relief! it looks like the polarizing filter has a protective coating which make sense since assembling the whole phone would have been too difficult with such a fragile lcd. the resulting stain described in one of the posts warning about wiping the lcd could be the oil from the finger print spread out by the cleaning cloth. maybe those lcds can still be restored. ;)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 One of the posts in question the guy used thinners to clean it  so the screen is damaged I bought the phone and now use it as a test phone for updates etc.
