Guest tormod Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 Is there any clever brains out there that have been thinking about a emulator for the new nokia ngage games? The sp have a better display, and a faster cpu.. Any ideas??
Guest gspacedboy Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 Ohhh, sounds like a worthy cause... I hope it can be done, i can just laught a twats on the tube with their crappy nokia/Symbian phones...
Guest mores Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 and switching games would be easier too, since on the ngage you need to remove battery cover AND battery to replace mmc/sd card!
Guest Arisme Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 It would require an emulation of Symbian OS APIs (unlikely) and an emulation of the specific non public D-Gage (pun for french speakers ;)) APIs (even more unlikely)
Guest tormod Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 as i understand, the game in self is java based. but have some nokia tweaks that have to been cracked. but hey, you guys can hack your way in to fbi, i'm sure there is somebody that can do this too.. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 Surely these are pipe dreams - completely different processor chip no ?? If its a worthy casue im sure SpaceMonkey will have his say...
Guest midnight Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 what? tomb raider in java????? i dont think so emulating a simple gameboy is hard enough (and even that runs slow), emulating a 3d games machine with 104mhz processor would be impossible (even making tomb raider for the smartphone using native c code would be an impressive feat)
Guest tormod Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 The ngage has a 104 MHz ARM processor, display 176 x 208 pixels... We have 132-200Mhz processor, display 176 x 220 pixels.. ;) This i s what I've found about ngange: N-Gage supports two different game styles: downloadable titles and rich games distributed on MMC cards. Downloadable titles for N-Gage are developed in Java MIDP in the same way and with the same tools used to develop downloadable games for any other Series 60 Platform device. Go to www.forum.nokia.com/games for our Step by Step Guide to mobile game development. You do not require authorization to develop downloadable games for any Series 60 Platform device. Rich games are programmed in C++ for Symbian OS. They are multiple megabytes in size and are sold at retail on memory cards. Rich games are developed using an N-Gage SDK that extends Series 60 Platform. Access to the SDK and details about the specific extensions available in the SDK are provided only to authorized N-Gage developers. The SDK is required to produce MMC cards compatible with N-Gage. Guest TANKERx Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 Without wanting to start a flame war, and I mean this with sincereity as a user of both Symbian and SPV phones (honest), the Symbian OS is considerably more streamlined than that used on the SPV. It really doesn't need the extra Mhz. I know the above paragraph sounds lame and if I was in your shoes, I'd be laughing at me right now  but it is true. On my 7650, I've been able to play 3D games which are every bit as good as their SPV counterparts. Games like Interstellar Flames play as well (if not better, but that could be down to the joystick) on the 7650, yet it has memory space like a Straight Jacket and a slower processor than my SPV. The 3650 is a massive improvement on the 7650 (at least in terms of RAM expansion, maybe not in keyboard design  ). I had my first shot on an N-Gage the other day and I was impressed because despite being bias toward Symbian, not even I thought it could do what I saw it doing. So I'd be mighty impressed if the Smartphone could emulate the N-Gage.
Guest comebackdx Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 It would not surprise me that an emulator comes out on the PC, but the current SPV's do not have the 'grunt' to make it happen.
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 Are you not forgetting the SPV has only been out just over a year. Its made huge leaps in a small space of time.
