Guest mwille Posted October 12, 2003 Report Posted October 12, 2003 Since there's plenty of wizkids and the like here I thought I might as well ask this question here ;) : My PC (winXP SP1 all updates installed) keeps hanging recently.. Cause being everytime : sockspy.dll, always when using some kind of app that uses my adsl connection. In the case of the appcompat log below it was my browser that quit, but its also happenend with outlook, messenger, iexplorer.. Once this has happened I need to reboot before being able to use any "internet going" application :D Can't seem to find much help on the i-net about this dll either.. Anybody here have the answer ?? thanx ! <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?>
Guest siu99spj Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 Seems like its a spyware app. Just give Ad-Aware a go and see if it wants to remove it, but a very suspicious file name... Have you tried removing it temporarily to see if that fixes it? If you can remove it and nothing complains then just dump it. Problem solved. However, if its an active DLL, you might need to hunt down whats using it, and that can be a pain...
Guest mwille Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 Neither Adaware or Spybot did anythinh with it.. Renamed the sucker in the meantime and no advers affects so far and the problem has gone away :)
Guest coulhaus Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 Do you use Bullguard antivirus? I know bullguard uses a sockspy.dll (which I reckon spies on your sockets to check for virii). hth
Guest Taoski Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 There is a SPyWare database which you can search on here. But Sockspy.dll is not mentioned anywhere. Could be Bullguard as coulhaus mentioned - google also reports this file as being part of this product.
Guest mwille Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 I've never used Bullguard.. But I renamed the .dll a while ago and have never had problems since.. Thanx anyway guys
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 Im not sure about this but try this link here : It helped me when i was missing a dll file and could replace your old dodgy one with a replacement :?: <>
Guest Matt Kirby Posted December 13, 2003 Report Posted December 13, 2003 I've never used Bullguard.. But I renamed the .dll a while ago and have never had problems since.. Thanx anyway guys  I think that Bullguard is installed as part of some dodgy place - maybe that's where it came from.
