Guest stu_lowe2003 Posted October 13, 2003 Report Posted October 13, 2003 Hi I am just about out of contract on my SPV and am gonna stump for another MS smartphone. As no dates for mitacs have been announced then I am looking at either the mpx200 or the e200. But I am unsure which to get for the following reasons. The mpx200 looks to be a stylish piece of kit. I would really like an attractive phone after having had the (rather chunky) spv for a year. Also I hear it runs very well due to its increased amount of ram and optimisations. I start to then think about the e200 and its advantages. Firstly, it has bluetooth, hmmmm.... neither my pc, laptop or pocket pc have blue tooth. So not really needed (never keep phones for more than a year, so this isn't priority for me). An intergrated camera is not important to me either, as the only time i want pics at short notice it is dark and i am drunk. What would be useful for me is 802 wifi capabilities as I run a wireless network at home. So I start to think about which phone may support this. Both smartphone 2002 and 2003 have support for SDIO, but the drivers were never written for 2002 on spv. 2003 does not have 'SDIO now' so won't support it without drivers. Now.... Motorola are planning an SD camera, which will mean writing SDIO drivers for it, on this basis I would more strongly believe that they may write drivers for wifi sd cards, no guarantee that HTC will bother. I am not going to jump on the e200 bandwagon because of its supposed stability, as no-one has any proof of this yet. Where as anyone who has used an mpx200 says how slick it runs. If a phone is not stable then it is not fit for the purpose it was sold for and I would return it anyway. Which leaves me thinking that the only thing (for me) which the e200 has over the mpx200 is the .net compact framework support. So I wonder if because of this are apps on smartphone 2002 gonna die off. Admittadly I know very little of programming and am not absolutely sure of what this will do for me. So my question is whether .net CF will be actually useful over the next year or not? Stu
Guest Richie M Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 Basically .net CF makes development easier for the 2003 platform, which in turn will mean more developers being able to code for it compared to 2002, which only supports C++. As for apps for 2002 dying off, thats upto individual developers but i'd be very surprised if they turn their back on it untill a couple of years.Basically .net CF makes development easier for the 2003 platform, which in turn will mean more developers being able to code for it compared to 2002, which only supports C++.
