Guest chucky.egg Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 Spoke to Orange Fax & Data a minute ago (156 in the UK, then menu 3, then 1) Asked where I could get the software to enable me to keep using MSN Messenger and was told that it was expected to be released on the 15th November (they didn't say which year :? ). They said that they (Orange) hadn't finished the update so I couldn't do anything about it. I asked for a refund for my GPRS bundle (2Mb = £4) because it was Orange that was preventing me from using it, and it was the main reason I chose that phone. They said "OK" - The operator had to clear it with his supervisor, but they're leaving my GPRS on and crediting my account for one months bundle. Cool. 2Mb free! Still wont be able to use Messenger which is a real pain in the arse (I've just persuaded all the smartphone users in my team to start using it, and now I cant! Who looks like a pillock now then?) If enough of us do it we may be able to persuade them to concentrate more effort on the services they're contracted to providing.
Guest cyrilthefish Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 possible temporary fix by a 3rd-party program? http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=94452 i hope it works
Guest hotphil Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 Woo hoo. Rang Orange on 156>3>1 (having had a 15min conversation with a 150 monkey earlier), got refund straight away. No swearing/shouting or anything - thanks Chris.orton for the best number to ring!
Guest mattscholey Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 Would this work if I had a bigger MB bundle, for example 30MB. Coz I'd rather have 30MB free than 2. Matt

Guest mattscholey Posted October 18, 2003 Report Posted October 18, 2003 :) What have you got to lose by trying? I'm currently on the 2MB bundle, so don't want to start paying £40 to sign up for the 30MB bundle, only to find out that they won't refund it. If anyone else wants to try then please tell us how you get along. Matt
Guest crafty Posted October 18, 2003 Report Posted October 18, 2003 I spoke to some guy on 156 to see if i could get a refund for non working messenger and to my surprise he said that i should go to microsoft.com/uk and download an update!?! I was very dubious and asked if he would stay on the phone while i did this (in fact he did the same at his end). After some searching he decided that there wasn't any update there and told me that O would be releasing an update shortly. I asked if he could give me a release date but he could not. I then brought up asking about some kind of refund and he said that he couldn't do that - but that i should call up when the service is restored and i could have a refund. Got him to log that on my account to make sure! Now not sure if i should rinse my GPRS or be more honest. In truth all i wanted was not to have to pay for my bundle as MSN is pretty much the only thing i use GPRS for. Not sure where the whole microsoft.com thing came from??? Makes you wonder whats going on at Orange HQ...
Guest chucky.egg Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 sounds like he had no knowledge of the problem. i would try again if i was you. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest mattscholey Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 I just phoned up asking for a refund. Firstly I wanted a refund for my line rental, as the only reason I am paying line rental is to have the phone, and the main reason I have the phone is to access messenger. Answer:No because line rental is used for voice calls, and I am still able to make voice calls on the phone. So I asked for a refund on my 2MB GPRS bundle. Answer: No because I can still use GPRS (come to think of it, that statements questionable but I didn't mention the dialing problem then) I just have to use it for other things from Messenger. The assistant blamed the problem on Microsoft, saying it was nothing to do with Orange. I remembered after the call that UK law states it is the responsibility of the seller not the manufacturer for faulty (lets describe the product as faulty, as it can not do everything it should do) goods. Should I try again? Do you think I have any chance of getting my line rental back (I'm on £15/month, and quite honestly wouldn't have a contract if the phone was available on PAYG)? Do you have any good points to put across if I get someone saying the same argument? Matt
