Guest bikespod Posted October 18, 2003 Report Posted October 18, 2003 hope this isn't a really stupid question, but is it possible, and how do you remove progs like picture manager, sim manager(is this needed), tasks as i have a task manager on the IA style accessories prog, and the msn messenger i'll never need or use. :?:
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Those apps are on the ROM so you cannot delete them, they only use a small ammount of the IPSM storage space that you have access. As for the SIM manager you need this app so you can accessedit your contacts on the SIM.
Guest bikespod Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 the thing is, i've loaded everything i can onto my sd card, but still when using the camera, which i do for work, it sometimes says not enough memory to capture image, and i have to drop the resolution down. any ideas or quick fixes, i'm using IA album and its camera function
Guest blewer Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Have you got any large ring tones on the phone? If so you could always move them to the storage card too, as these take up lots of memory.
Guest bikespod Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 they're already on the sd card as are all the stored photos. its a 64 meg so should be fine. ok ram prog has 36% free, storage 70% free, flash has internal 80% free and the sd card is 91% free. this is presuming the bar on the guage in IA system info indicates free space and not space used :?:
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Things that can take up space, 1, Emails and SMS check the Deleted Items folder is empty 2, Have a look in IPSMMAPI folder this is where Emails and sent SMS live, this folder can get quite cluttered. 3, As listed above Ringtones can hog the phone's memory. 4, have you had any recent failed installations? if so have a look in IPSMWindowsAppMgrInstall and delete what you find there. As a note you can only view this folder using an app similar to Smart Explorer or one of the newer versions of Activsync.
Guest bikespod Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 thanks yet again AW for your responses. do you know if the indicator bar on IA sytem info is mem used or mem left?? what's this about ONE of the active sync updates, i've only done one update, fairly recently, is there another one :?: :?: unfortunately none of your suggestions bear any fruit in the form of clogged up files unless i can't view them like you said :)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 If you have Activsync 3.7 you shoulld be able to view the Install folder. The very latest version is 3.7.1 I'm not sure about IA for reading memory status as I always use Task Manager as it's probably the best app around. The only other thing I can think of is are you sure you are saving your photos on the storage card and not the phone?
Guest bikespod Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 :) seem to have done something in my fiddling as it now works ok. yes have 3.7. is it worth having next update. when you talk about task manager, who's the author :?: ITS OK found it. is smart explorer an update to IA file manager, it looks very similar. :?:
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Jacoch wrote the app and hosts it on Binarys website http://www.binarys.com/smartphone/default_en.asp www.monolithix.org has it as well. Also have a look at Smart explorer as well, both these apps by Jacoch are must have apps. Also your phone needs to be decerted to use these apps.
Guest bikespod Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 thanks again, will have to look tomorrow, getting grief for being online too long?!?! still no message from orange to unlock phone.goodnight
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Try to decert again sometimes it can take a few attempts :?

Guest mcfc2134 Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 I've got 0.8mb free on my SPV out of a possible 7mb (ish). I cant free up anymore space from anywhere! Any idea on how I can free some more space? Its causing my SPV to run v.slow and crash! Plz help. Thanks.
Guest blewer Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 If I were you I would hard reset the phone and start again. If you do this make sure you have a backup of all software, contacts and appointments. When reinstalling everything place all apps on the storage card. Good luck :)
Guest mcfc2134 Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 Sounds a bit extreme. I aint got a clue how to back up contacts etc... No easier way?
Guest blewer Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 Of course, move all apps to storage card. Delete all messages SMS, emails and attachments. If you have any wav files as ring tones you can also put these on the storage card (look for midnights tweak). If you have any failed installs you can delete them in IPSMWindowsAppMgrInstall. Let us know how you do and if you need any more help with the above. Adam :)
Guest mcfc2134 Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 Cheers mate, I'll try it when I get home from work and reply with my findings then. Thanks once more!
Guest blewer Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 Normal memory killers are e-mail attachments, games, failed installs and wav files (just to keep in mind)
Guest mcfc2134 Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 Will do, thanks. Can I delete all stuff in the IPSM folder? Will do, thanks. Can I delete all stuff in the IPSM folder? Will do, thanks. Can I delete all stuff in the IPSM folder?
Guest blewer Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 You can delete all stuff in IPSMWindowsAppMgrInstall. Easiest way to do this is through ActiveSync. BUT NOT ALL IPSM FOLDER. I doubt it would let you do this anyway, (but don't try, just in case)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 blewer m8 been through all this in earlier posts in this thread :) The only thing left is to hard reset but to be honest it sounds more like some apps have been installed to the phone rather than the card by mistake :? Also as the phone has not been decerted yet the only other thing I have not mentioned is have a lot (and I mean a lot) of homescreens been installed ? All of my apps get installed to the SD card and I normally have around 5MB of space on the IPSM
