Guest Dr Who Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 So, last night I was showing off to some friends when my phone locked up (seems to happen more often than I would like). I took the battery out and I think turned the phone back on (which has sorted things out in the past) and had it working I THINK, my memory would appear to be rather hazy at around the time it happened. Anywho, when I turned on this morning it booted REAL slow and then flashed up an alarming sounding mesage (autoconfig or something). The phone had reset itself, seems to have lost the decertification I did and lost software registrations. All the shortcuts are present and correct and when trying to run a decertified app it just says it can't 'cos they are not digitally signed. Do I just need to re-decertify the phone and reregister or am I going to come up against other issues?
Guest EmpzB Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 When this happened to me I had to hard reset and decert again, I think that is the only way to get the decertification back.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Partial Reset as we call them here can happen due to dodgy XML ie Homescreen error or low battery fault etc or as you found by pulling the battery when the phone had locked up. This is a fairly common fault and happens when the phone finds a registry error etc and trys to do a self repair. You will need to decert your phone but sometimes a Hard Reset can be required if it starts playing up.
Guest blewer Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 No you shouldn't need to do a hard reset. The phone has performed a partial reset. If you decert your phone all should work fine :) EDIT: Beat me to it :(
Guest Dr Who Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Cool. Is there any backup that can be carried out on the SPV (via activesync or third party software?) that can return the SPV to it's pre-reset condition, including decertification, registration, etc?
Guest Billy Marrafyass Posted October 27, 2003 Report Posted October 27, 2003 Hoopefully this is the right thread: My SPV decided to wipe itself almost entirely last week. Gone are ALL the Programs, so that when I press the Program button nothing happens. ActiveSync sees the phone as a Guest and, exploring it I can see the non-IPSM Windows Folder with lots of programs in it but the IPSM Windows folder is empty apart from evtlog0.dat & evtlog0.idx. 256Mb SD Card has been wiped too. From this thread I'm suspecting a hard reset is in order? Plus an orange update decert? Then re-adding all the games/sounds/pics from the pc via activesynch? Please help as my lobotomised SPV needs help!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 27, 2003 Report Posted October 27, 2003 Something very strange has happened there as the SD card should never been touched unless you have formatted it yourself :? What your problem is, is it that Activsync is seeing your phone as a guest. After a partial reset you need to create a new partnership, when you plugged the phone into the PC it would have asked if you wanted to create a new partnership or guest. With the phone unplugged open Activsync and choos FileDelete partnership, now plug the phone back in and you should be promted to create a new Partnership. Do this and you will resync your contacts etc. guest
Guest Billy Marrafyass Posted October 28, 2003 Report Posted October 28, 2003 Never formatted the SD card - I only got it 2wks ago. The main thing I think has happned, judging from previous posts, is a registry fix: I follwed Midnight's start menu registry tweak, which didn't work as expected - it just put all programs in alphabetical order. I assumed I'd misunderstood but it wasn't a major issue until I plugged the charger in and BAM! it all just vanished. ANyhow thanks for the advice : Partial Reset - what does that involve? Could you point me in the right direction please?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 28, 2003 Report Posted October 28, 2003 Partial Reset is what your phone has already done (by the sounds of it :)) just do what I said above to create a new Partnership and you should be able to see what you have on your storage card because the date should still be on it.
Guest Billy Marrafyass Posted October 28, 2003 Report Posted October 28, 2003 Thanks for that - I have followed your advice re activesync but my main problem i the complete lack of functionality - i.e. I can't access any programs as there is no start menu! I'm not that bothered about the sd card info, as isay there wasn't that much on it yet. How do I get the Start Menu working again? Is it easier to hard reset? Again I have a nearly blank IPSM Windows folder and another Windows Folder containing all kinds of progs and files. Do I create new folders called "Start Menu" etc etc? and if so where? Any more help would be much appreciated. ps the only thing on the storage card after resynching is now smartexplore - there were lots of movie trailers, games, apps etc on there before, so god knows what's going on.
Guest drblow Posted October 28, 2003 Report Posted October 28, 2003 Tried removing & reinserting SD card?? Sounds obvious, but it happens to me quite often that activesync won't see it unless I remove/reinsert the card! If that doesnt work I would just do a hard reset m8! At the moment you can't access anything anyway, & hard reset should get you back to 'out of the box' format. Then you should be able to set up active sync again, & it should read your SD. Then decert again & you should be laughing!
Guest Billy Marrafyass Posted October 28, 2003 Report Posted October 28, 2003 Thanks lads I'm not that bothered about the sd card - it only had a few bits + bobs on there I think it's going to be quicker to start from scratch - everything is backed up on the pc. I am intersted in reordering the start menu though. Has anyone done it who could post a screenshot of what regedit would look like?? Thanks again lads
Guest drblow Posted October 28, 2003 Report Posted October 28, 2003 reordering start menu - do a search for registry tweaks! Posted from my SmartPhone!
