Cool things to do with your smartphone

Lets have a nice long post listing all the cool things that make your smartphone worth having, because I'm starting to worry that I'm not using mine enough.

So just post everything cool you can do with a smartphone, say a bit about it, and a link to find out more/get it. If you have any other good tips that you've done to your phone, which you just have to recommend, post them here!

Let's hope this gets some people doing things they never knew they could do with there phone!

I don't have TOO MUCH to say, the thing I adore most is great mp3 playback with great volume and quality (which I didn't have in my first smartphone - 3650) but I only got to use it a couple of times for testing purposes, when my 256MB card arrives in the next few days I'll start having my music whereever I go which is great!! one of my favorite features about the SOUNDpv :)

So in a few words - QUALITY music with you, on your phone. that's my favorite feature.

Yeah, I'd second that - 256Mb of WMA for me - short train ride, means I never get the same song twice (so far!) on my commute. I use software called All2WMA (or AllToWMA - can't remember) to do the conversion from MP3 to WMA (which shrinks files by about 25%).

Messenger was my top tip, and one of the main reasons for getting the phone, but the less said about that at the moment the better.

Repligo is handy - holds various work-related files, including a full staff telephone directory (wish it was searchable!)

music, ebooks, total soccer, pocket bartender (this ensures i rarely have the same drink twice) and pocketmvp for humourus and porn clips to watch whilst in the pub.

I used to use a voice recorder that I bought to practice singing and taking notes.... Now I use Echo Voice Recorder... This works great because it's in my phone which is always with me so I don't have to carry around another device... I am able to store large/long files on my SD. It's way better than the built in recorder that comes with the phone.

Hey! I just noticed the MoDaCo guy at the top is wearing a different jacket!! A red, white, and blue American flag one!!!

I'm interested in that software assuming the quality isn't downgraded a lot... can you find out the name or supply a link?

I'm assuming it can transfer whole batches of mp3, right?

I love watching South Park on my E100 - 256Mb card can typically hold about ten episodes. Watch them on the train with headset on, laughing my arse off much to the bemusement of other passengers. So much more fun than a walkman.

Beside all the obvious stuff I like to read O&M comic strips on my SPV ... I have about 1000 on my SD-card permanently ... :)

best thing for me is music playback. i currently have nearly 7 hours worth on my 256mb card! (horay for 74min trance mixes compressed to 64k ogg files!)

Loads of games/programs to play with, my current favorite being the pocketscumm emulator (monkey island!)

on top of that, all the internet things such as IE, email and MSN (well, when MSN works again)

In short, i'm very happy with my e100 8)

I'm interested in that [WMA conversion]software assuming the quality isn't downgraded a lot... can you find out the name or supply a link?

It's here: http://www.litexmedia.com/wma_converter/

Costs about £10, but well worth it IMO. I tried loads of freeware, but couldn't get anything working the way I wanted it.

Quality is fine, I only listen to WMA on the phone but I've not noticed ANY skipping or slurring.

Batch conversion is cool, and fairly fast, plus you can still use the PC whilst it's going (my OGG convertor trashes the PC so I cant do anything else while its going).

What's O&M? Bit like S&M? :)

Don't you mean M&M? ... Hehe, no ... this is O&M: http://www.ozyandmillie.org/ ... If you check here you can download the comics from the different years as zips ... So you can easily dump huge amounts on your phone :(

Anyone got any great ways to use GPRS? I'm just thinking about wheather I should spend £50 to move to T-Mobile and get cheaper GPRS, or spend the money on a 256MB SD card.

I use GPRS a lot, but just for e-mail and mcTraveller updates (weather, currency etc).

Watch them on the train with headset on, laughing my arse off much to the bemusement of other passengers.

Oh, the looks you get! Lot's of green eyes, painfully trying to avoid any eye contact on the train. The SPV is the perfect solution!

I have gotta get me that game - not played it in years !! So excited now !!

Futurama, Simpsons, Southpark etc are all brilliant of course. The best thing about having an SPV is that it pretty much has evreything a that a Nokia doesnt. And that for me is enough !!! :)

Comics... now there is an idea. If I could be bothered I'd scan all my old 2000ADs in! :)

It kinda looks like we're using it exactly for what it was created... SOUNDS, PICTURES, VIDEO... :)

Doesn't anyone have anything more original?

Umm well what did you have in mind? I mean I am sure the SPV makes a great doorstop, and probably not a bad cheesegrater too, but I'm not really that keen on finding out...

Got to be MP3/WMA Audiobooks for me i think.

Makes that train journey go like a flash!

Get a Sagem My-X-6. It has a built-in cheesegrater/nail filler on the back!

How do people get south park and simpsons episodes on your spv?

Share the secret please??

Posted

The search button on the site is the secret. Look for "divx settings", that should set you off.

You'll need to get the episodes into avi format first, that's outside of the scope of this site.

From the original DVD that you own and are legally entitled to make a copy of for your own personal use...

Use a DVD ripper to make a video file (mpeg, avi or similar), then using Windows Movie Maker (free download from Microsoft) encode for Pocket PC quality (143fps).

If you have a look in the Help and Advice section, there are many threads that make a much better job of explaining it than me!
