Guest seanjon Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Let me explain my situation fully! Bought SPV slightly used of Ebay (thought it was unlocked, instead came with instruction to unlock) Upon delivery Immediatly found 2 old unactive SIM Cards (Canadian, FIDO/Microcell) Put them in and went through the process. Unlocked screen came up-entered code voila...or is it... Put in a new (active) SIM card No Signal...Searching, tried other SIM cards same message... Upgraded and downgraded bootloaders....searched websites.... ...Finally I just put a Hard reset on the phone Restarted Unlocking procedure with 2 New active SIM card From 2 Different companies as stated in the instruction mailed to me, completed procedure but the screen asking for the unlocking code did not appear...and same message at the top statin No single available..searching. Now I am stuck with this SPV with nothing to do with it except play Solataire, and charge it. Is there an error-proof method of unlocking this phone? the only idea I could come up with is buying 2 international SIM cards online an ORANGE and T-mobile and using those to unlock the phone, but I can only find pay as go SIM cards...would those work? I'm desperate now, next step chopping the phone on ebay....HELP! PLEASE!
Guest nickcornaglia Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 Are the SIM cards you are using any good? Did you use the SIM card that you plan on using with the device? Which service do you plan to use with the device? If the phone is SIM Unlocked....it will work with almost any SIM card from any Network provider. You do not need an Orange or international SIM. Which bootloader is loaded on the phone? The unlock program will only work from version .98 sown to .93 I think. Which ROM is on the phone? Is it the Orange ROM?
Guest seanjon Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 initially the sim cards used were not to be used with the phone, they were just 2 old sim cards i had that were no longer in service, but the unlocked screen came up, and i put in the code. I had used a sim card from the company i planned to hook the the phone up with, but not a new sim that was active. I was planning to usethe Fido/Microcell service with the phone. The bootloader was 0.98, then I upgraded, but downgraded because the phone was not unlocked, so I knew I needed the 0.98 bootloader to use the unlock software, this is why I thought you might need a orange sim to unlock the phone, then you could use any other sim card after...as for rom I believe I have the orange ROM, but not quite sure what you meant by that....what type of sim card were used to unlock other ppl's Orange SPV?
Guest nickcornaglia Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 Well, first, I'm sure you don't need an Orange SIM to SIM-Unlock the phone. I used a T-Mobile to unlock two of my phones. But I'm still not sure if I totally understand your problem. Is the SIM you are putting in the phone Active or Not? If not, you will obviously get no signal. Oh, and the Orange Sunset Screen will show up when turning on the phone if you are using an Orange ROM. If you could explain clearer, maybe I could help you more. It sounds to me that you successfully unlocked the phone but do not have an active SIM to check it out with.
Guest seanjon Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 Orange does show up when phone is loading, so yes I suppose I do have the Orange ROM. To clarify when I initially unlocked the phone I did it with un-active sim cards, but the unlocked screen appeared, and I thought all was fine. Later that day I inserted active sim cards, but no signal was found, just as when the unactive sim card was inserted. So I hard reset the phone, and tried to unlock with active sim cards, but the unlock screen did not appear for me to enter the unlock code....it just reads as if un-active sim card were inserted.... Let me know if thats a better explanation of the scenario....HELP!
Guest nickcornaglia Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 That is a clearer explanation...sorry I didnt understand before. It is an ODD situation. I'll have to look into and consult or refer to the experts.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 Got another idea. In settings there is a menu item called Telephony. Under that is a setting called Band Selection. European is set to: Dual Band US & Canada should be PCS. Change that...I'll bet it does the trick.
Guest seanjon Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 Thanks, I'll give it a try, and get back to you with the results...! :)
Guest Will Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 seanjon, i think you have unlocked, just need to do as encence says and swap to PCS.. Let us know! Will

Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 If you have an SPV then it is an easy process, trust me :) Failing that there is no official place to get it done, but some low lifes like to prey on people and charge silly ammounts for doing a few seconds work. Where abouts are you as I'm sure someone here on the site may be able to help you out.

Guest nickcornaglia Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!! :) Finally!! Thank You!!!! All I want to know now is how to get online Web Browsing with the phone, and get MSN working....Any Help with that? Glad to see that worked for you. If it didn't...I don't know what we would have done next. As far as your internet settings...look under ARTICLES for a thread called GPRS Settings repository. If you dont see your carrier listed there...give your Network provider's Customer Service a ring. They could talk you thru some of the basic settings even though they dont support the phone. Ask to speak to a wireless services tech. Sorry....I dont know anyone using Fido/Microcell Networks. Good Luck and please report back your progress.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 Here ya go...to save you some time searching.
