Dear Verizon:

Where, oh where, has my Smartphone gone?

Over the past year, I've been using my Smartphones over TMobile's GSM Network. I had to cancel my service due to dropping way too many calls, too many dead zones, and NO SERVICE IN MY HOME. I actually had to leave my phone on a window to be able to receive calls and go outside if I wanted to speak. After many arguments with TMobile's crack-smoking customer service team...I had to all it quits. I know when I've been beaten, and there was no winning when the Network won't even recognize the problem.

Your CDMA network is soooo much better. Reception everywhere. No weak/dead zones in my area or ANYWHERE I travel. I even have reception where others don't. This includes ATT, Cingular, and of course, TMobile.

Your 1xRTT data is exceptionally fast. In short, as far as service and coverage goes...I'm a happy camper.

"Then why the tear in you eye, Nick?", you ask.

I MISS MY SMARTPHONE!!!

Sure, I have a cool PPCPE Samsung i700. It does everything I need. It has more software for it than I could ever need or use. It's screen is bright and clear and BIG. And you know how I feel about touchscreens. LOVE EM. I can write faster on a PPC than I will ever be able to type on a phone pad. Sometimes faster than I can write on paper.

But it's not the same.

First of all, IT'S HUGE. Especially when carrying around an SPV or Mitac for a long while. It's just not comfortable in my hands. I am an above average user of the PPC...but by no means do I consider myself a POWER USER who absolutely needs to have a PPC to function in my personal and work lives.

The Smartphone does everything I need it to do...and more! My obcession runs deeper with this device than any other gadget I've ever owned....with the exception of my PC. But the Smartphone has become equally as necessary in my life as my PC.

That said....WHERE THE H3LL IS MY SMARTPHONE!!!!!

I switched to Verizon for your service...but also in the hopes that the long awaited i600 would be out as the first supported Smartphone device in the US. Then AT&T beats you to the punch! And with, in my opinion seems to be a more superior phone...and certainly better looking!

Should I have switched to ATT? I can't now, unless I want to pay another $200 to cancel my current contract for another GSM service of lesser quality. If I switch, I'll probably find that ATT and TMobile actually share GSM towers and I'd wind up in the same boat as where I started. SO I can't and won't do that.

WHY! WHY! WHY!???

I can't win. Let's go Verizon! I'll deal with the ugliness of the i600. Release it already. We're ready for it. I'm ready for it. I expect bugs...so just release it already...we'll get them ironed out!

I want a Smartphone...and I want it now. By early next week at the latest. And I better be the first to get one too.

And by the way. You better not rest on your laurels after you release the i600. I better see an encore very soon after. A nicer-look Smartphone with more features, including an integrated camera and WM2003. Look across the Atlantic at Orange who may be your competition one day. Why couldn't you just learn from them? They added an integrated camera after everyone was calling for it. You didn't want to add the camera because business users didn't have a need for it? Well, I'll let you in on a little secret. It's not mandetory to use the camera! It doesn't have a 35mm lense sticking out of it...it's just a little hole on the back of the phone that is barely intrusive to those who wish it wasn't there.

The more features the better, IMO.

So what are you standing there for? Get moving. You have a deadline to meet. MY DEADLINE!

Love,

Nick Cornaglia

I feel your pain. I feel like the naive mistress that keeps expecting her lover to divorce his wife. YEAH, that'll happen!

I wish there was a CDMA version of the E200 or a better GSM service in my area. That is a nice phone. Currently my #1 favorite....IMO.

one of the big problems in the US is the fact that GSM is VERY temporary. Don't get used to it. It was a decision to keep AT&T and Cingular from going belly up to the competition because of lack of color screens, cool apps, cool phones, etc.

3G is coming. Verizon has the fastest network by far. But will AT&T and Cingular eventually go to the same standard? Will your UK 3G phone work on the US 3G networks?

NO.

God, this bites...

Yes, where IS the i600? The Verizon training guide and website has leaked, dummy phones are in the shops, but still no i600. I'm torn between the Treo 600 and SCH I600 and I'll probably go with what I can get my hands on first (I have accounts with Cingular and Verizon and will drop one then). Growing tired of waiting...
