Guest chucky.egg Posted October 23, 2003 Report Posted October 23, 2003 I know I keep going on about Messenger cut-off, but I've just noticed something (sort of) new... If you go to the Orange.co.uk shop and find the E100 they still show a little info bubble saying "Did you know? You can keep in touch by using MSN messenger on your SPV E100" Anyone that's bought their phone recently could argue for a refund (if they wanted to ditch the SPV) on the basis that they bought the phone on the strength of inaccurate information supplied by Orange. in case anyone hadn't noticed Orange cutting off MSN has really p1ssed me off!
Guest liquid-core Posted October 23, 2003 Report Posted October 23, 2003 It wasnt Orange that cut MSN Messenger off was it? I thought it was Microsoft who cut messenger off at their servers and as yet havent released a compatable build for the SmartPhone. Incase you hadnt noticed Microsoft have done the same with the PocketPC version of Messenger and that built for the PC also. I agree with you though, Microsoft should have released a new and compatible version of MSN Messenger for the SmartPhone. But i dont have a SmartPhone yet and can live with the service being down.
Guest ixtab Posted October 23, 2003 Report Posted October 23, 2003 Actually MS already released the patch/new-version. But per it's agreement with the service providers (aka Orange) they are required to hand it over to Orange. Orange (and others) are testing the patch/update and that's why it's taking so long. This time is not a pure MS fault. It's part MS (delay) part Orange.

When I spoke to Orange they said that they DID have the fix, but it was being tested and wouldn't come out til Nov 15th (which makes me think its part of the 1.6 build)
Guest Bazz Posted October 23, 2003 Report Posted October 23, 2003 On the plus side though this may mean they really push to get us the update to fix this as it is annoying people. Without this extra incentive they may delay the update again. Still think it was MS's fault though for actually switching off the old version before a new one was ready to public release.
Guest stu_lowe2003 Posted October 23, 2003 Report Posted October 23, 2003 The messenger cut off has pissed me off a little too. I took this up with orange and ran into a few problems with them reading text off of screens over and over. However I told them that I wished to terminate my contract as they were now in breach of it (can't be arsed to go into the legal side of it, but they are.) Anyway, I got a call back from customer relations who decided they wanted to play difficult. They attempted to fob me off with an address to write to (non-cutomer facing departments). However after a little digging I managed to get hold of a few more important people in Orange and we are finally getting somewhere on it. I dislike oranges two tier customer service system. 'He who shouts loudest gets what they want'. On a slightly different point did you know that orange no longer replace for dust under the screen. I had mine replaced in July for this. They have recatagorised it on their systems as user damage casued by wear and tear (mine got dust under it within a week of owning it, is that excessive wear and tear?). It aint even covered by orange care any more. Which means you have to pay to get it fixed, non-warrantable. Why oh why is my new Treo 600 gonna be on F'in Orange. Wish another carrier would get some decent phones. Stu

It's going off topic, but I think it's a bit much of them to do that. iPAQs had the same problem (also made by HTC), and they admitted it was a design fault, and fixed them for free. I bet it costs no less than £40 for Hayes to fix the dust. You can fix the problem fairly easily yourself by taking the phone apart (but don't use solvent on the screen, as I did!), but then you'll void your warranty, and they'll charge you for any repair after that. I don't think this is very fair at all, because, tbh, it really isn't too dissimilar from changing the face on a Nokia or suchlike. And anyway, they should have made it have changeable faces, imho.
