Guest bgood Posted October 23, 2003 Report Posted October 23, 2003 I cannot get my mitac mio out of airplane Mode. I have tried a hard reset. I have done everything. I even did the unlocking feature, It is unlocked, but it is STILL stuck in airplane mode. How the heck do I fix this???? Please help me!! THanks
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 23, 2003 Report Posted October 23, 2003 Press the Power button quickly to enter the Quick List menu Choose Option 4 to change the mode, this will take a few seconds to do so be patient.
Guest bgood Posted October 25, 2003 Report Posted October 25, 2003 I have tried multiple times to get out of the airplane mode and it will not work. I cannot find a network. and It will not let me manually search for a new network the phone is a 600 dollar paperweight right now. I can't get any help from Mitac. I have reset it, I have done the application unlock, and nothing will work ..... PLEASE someone has to help me :)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 25, 2003 Report Posted October 25, 2003 If you are saying it cannot find a network then it sounds like aeroplane mode is off already and not on. When in aeroplane mode the phone will not search for a network it will display in the top right corner the signal icon with a "x" next to it. So the problem sounds like it is SIM or network related. If you are in the US check your band selection (should it be on PCS?) by going to ProgramsSettingsTelephoneyBand Selection
Guest bgood Posted October 25, 2003 Report Posted October 25, 2003 I have tried my SIM card in a different phone, and I have alson tried a different SIM card in the phone . Neither works. I have tried to change the Network settings, and it will not let me change it. I have changed from Automatic to manual. It just refuses to find a network. VERY frustrating. Any more ideas?? THanks BT
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 25, 2003 Report Posted October 25, 2003 Forget about changing automatic etc have you tried what I said above? This is the normal reason for prblems in the US. Just checking are you in the US ?
Guest bgood Posted October 26, 2003 Report Posted October 26, 2003 I am in the us. I have tried what you said above. It will not let me select a new ban because It doesnt' recogine one. I try to find a new network, select a network, and the preferred network. Ntohing will work. I have never had this problem, I appriciate your help. It may have hurt that I did a hard reset but it can't find anything. I have two currently working SIM cards and neither one will work. I am in the US too. THanks again. BT
Guest ranzz Posted October 26, 2003 Report Posted October 26, 2003 No, he's not talking about the programs>settings>telephony>networks. He's talking about programs>settings>telephony>Band Selection, which works no matter of the reception, the sim, and even IN airplane mode, you will ALWAYS have access to that option, and you need to set it to PCS.
Guest bgood Posted October 26, 2003 Report Posted October 26, 2003 Once in side telphoney I do not have an option for band selection. I do for networks and it will not work. I shouldn't be on PCS because i am with t-mobile in the US. Isn't that GSM? It just won't let me do anything I can't go into the channels, fixed dialing for many of the options in telephony. HElp me please???
Guest nickcornaglia Posted October 26, 2003 Report Posted October 26, 2003 Forget about changing automatic etc have you tried what I said above? This is the normal reason for prblems in the US. Just checking are you in the US ?The Mitac doesn't have band selection under telephony settings. Once in side telphoney I do not have an option for band selection. I do for networks and it will not work. I shouldn't be on PCS because i am with t-mobile in the US. Isn't that GSM? It just won't let me do anything I can't go into the channels, fixed dialing for many of the options in telephony. Help me please??? AWARNER is correct....On other MS Smartphones, there is a setting called Band Selection under Telephony...PCS would be the selection for North American users as opposed to Dual Band. (Don't get it confused with SprintPCS). But on the Mitac the option doesn't exist, assuming that the phone finds the proper network automatically. Because of this...you need to leave the settings at Automatic. I have tried my SIM card in a different phone, and I have alson tried a different SIM card in the phone . Neither works. I have tried to change the Network settings, and it will not let me change it. I have changed from Automatic to manual. It just refuses to find a network. VERY frustrating. Any more ideas?? THanks BT If your SIM doesn't work in a different phone....it sounds like your SIM is the problem. Did you scratch it or damage it in anyway? Try wiping off the contacts and reinserting it. If your SIM is the problem, you may have to go to TMobile to get a new one, which is very easy to do.
Guest bgood Posted October 26, 2003 Report Posted October 26, 2003 No I have two sims that both work fine. NEither will work in the Mitac, but both will work in another phone? THanks for helping me.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted October 26, 2003 Report Posted October 26, 2003 Just checking that you are hard resetting and not just turning the phone of an on. (This is from memory as I dont have the Mitac anymore) Turn the phone off. Press and hold the volume down button while turing the phone back on. When you get to the reset screen follow the directions. Use the volume up & down to move thru the menus. You'll want the Erase IPSM feature to reset the phone back to the original settings. (Or to the original unlocked rom if that's what you have) Is this what you are doing? Also...be sure you are inserting the SIM correctly AND locking the holder in place. I remember that the phone doesn't see the SIM unless it is truely locked in place correctly and the metal housing is locked into position correctly
Guest bgood Posted October 26, 2003 Report Posted October 26, 2003 I just did exactly what you told me to. THe phone still turned on again under airplane mode... Then I tried to switch it off. It did not work. It tried to go back again and change the setting under telephony, and It will not allow me to find a network.. This is making me wish I never had a mitac.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted October 26, 2003 Report Posted October 26, 2003 I wish you didn't have that PARTICULAR Mitac. It is such a great phone. Did you ever have in working? There is the possibility that it may truely be broken. Are you able to get it replaced?
Guest bgood Posted October 26, 2003 Report Posted October 26, 2003 yes it worked just fine, it just froze up, like it has more than once, I had to reset the phone and it somehow got stuck in airplane mode. I have tried to contact mitac to no avail. It is still under warranty, but I don't know where to send it to get fixed. Any ideas?
Guest martin Posted October 26, 2003 Report Posted October 26, 2003 I wish you didn't have that PARTICULAR Mitac. It is such a great phone. Hmmm, very suspicious words :? It's not your old phone is it encece :?:  It sounds as though the radio side of the phone is at fault. When trying to find a network it will probably give an error like 'the settings could not be opened' and this is because the radio is off. If you go to the quick list menu and select 'Airplane Mode off' it should state either 'No Service' or 'Searching' on the front of the phone. It does not matter what the Telephony-Networks settings are at this point. It should still come out of airplane mode :) There is no PCS/GSM selection on the Mitac but even this would not stop the radio being turned on. On the SPV you can re-download all the phones software again but I'm not sure if the Mitac software is available for download.
Guest bgood Posted October 26, 2003 Report Posted October 26, 2003 On the mitac You can only turn airplane mode on or off. It currently has killed all opportunities to turn the "radio" on. Does anyone have an idea how I can get ahold of someone at mitac. I am willing to send it overseas back to them, but If i could I would like to send it to mitac's offices in the US. Any more tips?? THanks again for all the help
Guest nickcornaglia Posted October 27, 2003 Report Posted October 27, 2003 No...No.. Martin! My Mitac was working beautifully when I had to kiss it goodbye! :) BGOOD: Did you buy the phone directly from Mitac or thru someone else??? If you bought from Mitac, you must have the contact info...send it to the contact info you bought it from. If you bought it from someone else...I don't know if your warrenty is any good anyway. But see if they will offer a replacement. I know this is a weird question....but you know when the radio is OFF the menu reads AIRPLANE MODE ON... ...and when the radio is ON the menu reads AIRPLANE MODE OFF. Both telling you what you can do with that selection. is in (TURN AIRPLANE MODE ON....TURN AIRPLANE MODE OFF.) A bit backwards and it can be confusing. If that doesn't work...you definitely have a funky phone that may be DEAD.
Guest bgood Posted October 27, 2003 Report Posted October 27, 2003 I am pretty sure I followed what you said, and it still will not work. I bought the phone new from someone other than mitac. I am having a hard time finding anyone to help me from mitac.
Guest winix Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 I guess no one will understand the pain in having that "Airplane" mode off problem and think it is just network or some other setting problem. I am still looking for the solution. The radio simply won't come up. If anyone know anything about this "feature" for turning off radio forever and solve it, please tell us.
Guest MrMagoo Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 Does that phone have bluetooth? I only ask because on the e200 if you have airplane mode ON you can still turn on bluetooth, and the phone gets really confused about the radio, thinking it is on when it isn't . I just thought if you have bluetooth, you could try turning that on and then trying the airplane mode on/off thing.
